As you probably know, the National Hockey League has just had a major rearrangement for the 2013-2014 season with its divisions and teams. The league has now moved to four divisions and two conferences. Two divisions (The Western Conference) will have only seven teams while the other two divisions (Eastern Conference) holds eight teams. The realignment has the Flyers alongside:
Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals
Due to the new format the Flyers will play a different schedule of games, but not entirely different. So in honor of the new realignment here are the five Flyers games you don’t want to miss.
Any game of the Keystone State rivalry, but this is a must see because this could be the game that shows us the Flyers potential for this year. These two bitter rivals will leave everything on the ice for this engaging spectacle.
#4 January 12, 2014/ Flyers vs Rangers
The two teams have hated each other since 1967 when the Flyers became an NHL franchise. These rivalry games have given us some great memories, such as Dave Schultz pummelling Dale Rolfe in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Semifinals of 1974. This will be a big Sunday night game for both teams.
#3 April 5, 2014/ Flyers vs Bruins
This game, which is a test of the Flyers offense and skating ability going against an extremely talented defensive and skating team in the Bruins, may be one of their last chances to pick up a quality win to slide them into the playoffs.
#2 January 18, 2014/ Flyers vs Islanders
This is a big game for the Flyers for one reason; this is the other team in the East they will be battling for that six, seven, eight seed in the Eastern Conference. This is an early chance for the Flyers to take a lead in the season series against New York.
#1 April 12, 2014/ Flyers vs Penguins
As I previously stated, “any game of the Keystone State rivalry is a must see”. This is the Flyers second to last game of the season. This is a big game for the Flyers and could influence their playoff hopes for the better or for the worse. It would be great to beat the Penguins to end the season even if we didn’t make the playoffs, never-the-less a win at the Igloo would be great for the city and its fans.
