After watching the Jets get demolished by the Titans 38-13, it’s a bit hard to find the positives. Both the Jets offense and defense shocked not only Jets fans but Rex Ryan himself. There are specific changes that have to be made for their next opponent, the Falcons next Monday night. It will not only be a tough matchup for the Jets, but also for the Falcons who have been struggling as of late. While sometimes it’s good to look at the positives in moving forward, today is not such a time.
Negatives
Penalties:
Yet again the Jets have suffered too many penalties. Ten penalties for 66 yards will give any team a slim chance of winning a football game. The last two weeks fans have been scratching their heads and need less sloppiness. Opposing teams know this problem and Rex Ryan knows it too.
The Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill Injuries:
Geno Smith’s favorite targets in last week’s win against the Bills both went down with injuries in Tennessee. Hill had a head injury early in the game while Holmes left in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury. Their status for next week has yet to be determined, but this may give Jeff Cumberland and Jeremy Kerley a bigger role in their offense.
Geno Smith’s rookie mistakes:
The key obstacle for Geno Smith’s offense was the fierceness of the Titans. Their major advantage in this game was a pass defense that managed to force Smith to throw two interceptions and two fumbles, one for a touchdown. He is tied with Eli Manning for the most turnovers in the league with 10 and has a 65.0 passer rating. Giving Bilal Powell more carries can help shape their offense and lessen his workload.
Rex Ryan on the 38-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans ,”It shocked me. I never expected that the game would turn out like this. Shocked. I don’t know what else to say.” Rex Ryan is understandably furious at his team and will need to look at the tape for the Falcons Monday Night game.
