My Old Man's Footy Report Volume 3: Hungry Suarez and Stoke no Joke as Arsenal Cause a Storm

Hi all, I’ve returned from my trip to Merseyside, but unfortunately not unscathed; my boss gave me a cold thanks to his endless sneezing in the car! By the looks of it however, I seem to have left a good vibe around Anfield as Luis Suarez was very greedy this Saturday, tucking away a well worked hat-trick against West Bromwich Albion. Hats off indeed!

As the title suggests, Stoke are no longer a joke. That title is now Manchester United’s. Stoke went to Old Trafford with not one win against United in the past 10 meetings. And then the script was well and truly flipped. GO ON STOKE! So what was Joke City is now Man-Jester United. What a fall from grace! All I’ve seen on my facebook feed is “Man United Never Die.” One match doesn’t determine a season, however, United’s defending does after Stoke’s first goal. Rich coming from a Shrewsbury Town fan I concede, but it can’t be denied. United’s fans celebrated Chicarito’s winner like England had suddenly won the World Cup! What should have been a pretty routine match turned into anything but for United as Stoke took an early lead thanks to the lanky Peter Crouch. One of David Moyes extremely welcome trump cards levelled matters up in Robin Van Persie, but straight away, bad-boy Marco Arnautovic restored the lead for the visitors. More late drama ensued with another trump card rescuing act from the fuzzy-headed Wayne Rooney before the ‘Little Pea’s’ late winner saved Moyes’s bacon for another day.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are still blowing away the competition and causing a minor storm at the top of the pile. The forecast is that this may well blow over….oh sorry, was taking about “Hurricane” St Jude there – The Palace did fall, but that was about as predictable as the name Michael Fish being regurgitated ad nauseum as the UK’s storm obsession took hold.

All in all, it has been a rather “standard” week in Blighty – if there can ever be such a thing.

And finally, the ghost of England losing to Norway 30 odd years ago, may finally be laid to rest as this storm will clearly give them “one hell of a beating!”

Hmmm, I may moonlight as a weather forecaster in my next life, though maybe not….everyone will be blown over by my jokes!

Until next time!
