Follow The Tweeters: Royal Rumble Reactions

On a night where Randy Orton succesfully defended his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against John Cena, Brock Lesnar demolished Big Show with several chairs and Ric Flair was Ric Flair, all eyes were on one match; The Royal Rumble match. Thirty men enter to outwit and outlast each other until one is left standing as the sole survivor. The victor of course getting a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania.

In the spirit of the Rumble match, FTT decides to count down the thirty participants with thirty tweets, each one dedicated to the specific wrestler that came out at that entry spot.

#1: CM Punk

Brock Lesnar Guy ‏@BrockLesnarGuy
First is not the worst. First is the best in the world, @CMPunk! #WWE #RoyalRumble pic.twitter.com/WcMS0ZU0MI

CM Punk was the wrestler whom lasted the longest in the Rumble match, although he had quite the advantage in doing so. Most did not give him a chance but to think that he was in the final four and his elimination came at the hands of Kane, who had been eliminated much earlier on, courtesy of Punk himself, tells you just how spectacular his 2014 Rumble run was.

#2: Seth Rollins

craig hermit ‏@craighermit
The most underrated member of the Shield is here seth rollins #RoyalRumble

Most likely true, and this is not a knock at Rollins himself. When you are in a group with one of the best talkers in the company (Dean Ambrose) and a man that everyone loves to watch obliterate people with his spear (Roman Reigns), it is easy to get lost in the shuffle. Rollins is no slouch and he has put on excellent matches throughout his wrestling career. Punk and Rollins starting the Rumble match as numbers one and two was a solid way to get things underway.

#3: Damien Sandow

Main Event Radio ‏@maineventradio
#3 is Damien Sandow. Wouldn’t be surprised to see HHH’s buddies Sandow and Sheamus have good showings in the #RoyalRumble. #RR

Unfortunately for Sandow, this would not be the case. Sandow was the first person to get eliminated from the Rumble match and he lasted a very brief 2:08. In that time, he had no eliminations under his belt and his most memorable moment was being a victim of Punk’s duo neck breaker-DDT combination on both Sandow and Seth Rollins. Not a great showing at all.

#4: Cody Rhodes

David Jackson ‏@RTVWOW
GO ON CODY! CROSSRHODES ALL ROUND! #RoyalRumble

Cody had quite a nice run that all started with an attack on his former partner, Damien Sandow. Cody got one elimination under his belt and hit a few CrossRhodes in the match but was unfortunately eliminated by Goldust, who was sent into the ropes where Rhodes was at the time, knocking his brother to the floor and out of the match. Perhaps a sign of things to come?

#5: Kane

Dina M ‏@Dina7810
This is ridiculous! Kane’s wrestling in his suit pants! #RoyalRumble

Yes. Yes he was. It was an awful sight at that. Nothing breaks the soul of a Kane fan more than seeing him with a buzzed head, no mask and… suit pants.

#6: Alexander Rusev

Adoring WWE ❤ ‏@FUTUREWWEDIVA18
I feel like I am the only one who knew who Alexander Rusev was. #RoyalRumble

I beg to differ. Having watched NXT for quite some time, I knew exactly who Rusev is and the type of wrestler he is. The groan that I let out was not a matter of confusion over who this beast of a man was, but rather; Why him? I wanted Sami Zayn.

#7: Jack Swagger

Attitude is Back! ‏@beyondattitude1
Jack Swagger is entrant number 7. WE THE PEOPLE

I’m not even kidding, this was the best Tweet for Jack Swagger last night… I expected at least a few “Swaggie Time!!!” as he ran down to the ring like only Jack Swagger can. Was that much to ask for? “Yeth! Yeth! Yeth!”

#8: Kofi Kingston

Belle Generico ‏@prettyheartless
Kofi Kingston is champion of The Floor Is Lava. #RoyalRumble

Every year you ask yourself; “How will Kofi top last year’s thrilling non-elimination stunt?” He’s done handstands, used announce chairs and even walked the plank on the barricade. With last night’s leap of faith, what could he possibly do next year? Perhaps he may find a couple of eliminated wrestlers layed out on the floor and use them as stepping stones… literally.

#9: Jimmy Uso

Staci Brooks ‏@SJB479
The ring is full! Jimmy Uso is hungry! But all after my hero! And now it’s GoldDust. That Alexander is GONE! Wow he’s ugly!

Jimmy was indeed hungry and he looked great in the ring. The Usos in general deserve more of a push than the one they received not long ago.

#10: Goldust

Gregory Shane Helms ‏@ShaneHelmsCom
I’m really torn on that. I love Cody and @Goldust as Champs but it’s cool to see @WWERoadDogg @RealBillyGunn as champs too!

Maybe it doesn’t have to do with the Rumble itself, but I found it nice to see an ex-WWE wrestler showing this kind of respect to Goldust and the other three participants in the Kickoff match. Had there been a Goldust in the Rumble tweet, it would have went something like this; “Noooooo Goldie! He just eliminated his brother! Why Goldie, Why?!”

#11: Dean Ambrose

Anthony ‏@Anthony9994 Protected Tweets
LOL, Roman Reigns eliminated Ambrose and Rollins!!!

Well Anthony, I don’t know about this being an “LOL” moment, but it may be a significant one. Rewind back to The Shield’s promo and you can cut the tension between Ambrose and Reigns with a knife. The more Reigns gets the better of Ambrose, the more Ambrose will lose it. If you know a thing or two about Ambrose, pre-WWE, him going nuts may not be such a bad thing.

#12: Dolph Ziggler

The Iron Sheik ‏@the_ironsheik
Dolph Ziggler new generation Curt Henning #RoyalRumble

They layed it on pretty thick with his “Perfection” gimmick many moons ago, but I think Ziggler is moving away from that now and writing his own legacy. What that is right now, we don’t know just yet.

#13: R-Truth

Fringezilla ‏@Fringezilla
R-Truth came out to a silent crowd then got eliminated! What’s up?!! #WWE #RoyalRumble

Well… I guess “That’s what’s up.”

#14: Kevin Nash

Joey Giovannitti ‏@Hab_It_All
Hope kevin nash doesn’t hurt himself walking down the ramp

I know I shouldn’t laugh at this, but I did. I do admit, when Nash walked out to the ring I was reciting the sound Nash’s knees makes whenever he walks.

#15: Roman Reigns

FRANK™ ‏@WWEBosco
Roman Reigns is without question, gonna be a one of biggest stars in the company soon rather than later. #RoyalRumble

What a true statement this was. You could already tell that Reigns has been pulling away from the pack, in terms of who out of all three members of The Shield will be a break-out star. Last night was all the proof you needed. Thirteen eliminations, final two and he layed one hell of a spear on Batista.

#16: The Great Khali

RybackRAGE ‏@RybackRAGE 23h
WHO REMEMBERS WHEN GREAT KHALI WAS GOOD?

I DON’T.

#RoyalRumble

I do. He was World Heavyweight Champion that time. I can’t remember what he did with it but he was Champion. That counts for something, right?

#17: Sheamus

RadioInfluence.com ‏@RadioInfluence
My wife on sheamus – he looks like he’d be in Harry Potter as a weasley

If the Harry Potter series did some sort of weird sequel where Harry invents this secret potion that gives all the benefits of steroids without the negative aspects.

#18: The Miz

MaffewOfBotchamania ‏@Maffewgregg
The Miz: ”Why am I winning the Royal Rumble?”

Because I’m asleep and having a nightmare.

If you don’t know who Maffew is, first thing is first; Shame on you. Second; go follow him. Can you imagine The Miz winning the Rumble? Yikes. Best part of his vignette was the mention of him headlining Wrestlemania. Twenty years from now, he’ll still be gloating about it.

#19: Fandango

Brian Heffron ‏@TheeBlueMeanie
Fandango with the “Naked Gun” style entrance twirling his valet out of frame. Hahahaha! #RoyalRumble

I fully admit that this was the first thing that came to mind. It was nice to see the crowd Fandagoing as well, but caught me off guard as I thought this had died down as of late.

#20: El Torito

Larry ‏@yorkertomahawk
What if Torito eliminated Punk?

We’d all riot.

#21: Antonio Cesaro

Alice Radley ‏@AliceRadley
Is there an organism alive that wouldn’t give a hand/tentacle/cilia get a piece of Cesaro? #Oof

Big nipples and all? #Oof indeed.

#22: Luke Harper

Mohamed Mohamed ‏@MoeSquare
Luke Harper needs to borrow Carlos Boozer’s hair paint and fix his bald spot

I have a legitmate beef with this tweet. I’m balding there too and I’m 26. Not all of us can have fabulous hair that blows in the wind, Fabio.

#23: Jey Uso

SwordArtOnline/FMA ‏@OnlyOneMDB
I’m a fan of Jey Uso but his rumble number is way too high for a midcarder, in my opinion it’s 4 potential main eventers/& main eventers-

Or surprise entrants that get their five minutes of fame, eliminate a member or two and then get eliminated themself, i.e. not main eventers or potential main eventers. The meaning of the numbers has become so meaningless, they could have Brad Maddox come out at that point.

#24: John “Bradshaw” Layfield

The Wyatt Family ‏@TheAussieViper
JBL hahaha WRESTLING GOD #RoyalRumble

It was a great moment to hear his theme, but what goes up must come down. JBL climbed up the apron and unfortunately he was a victim of his own fashion. In his defense, I would not have wanted to wrinkle up such a fancy coat.

#25: Erick Rowan

CM Punk is The BITW ‏@RespectPunkBITW
Erick Rowan 25

This was as good as it got. You could feel frustration building up at this point, in terms of you-know-who being left out.

#26: Ryback

WWE Creative Humor ‏@WWECreative_ish
Last year Ryback eliminated 5 men because last year we still thought Ryback could draw. Live and learn. #RoyalRumble

And you hope this is a lesson they won’t soon forget.

#27: Alberto Del Rio

Muzzy ‏@NufcMuzzy
The most entertaining man in WWE history, Alberto Del Rio!

Well… I don’t know about that. The MOST entertaining? In history? I admit I like his theme song but I think it ends there in terms of the word “entertaining”.

#28: Batista

Jennifer Steele ‏@jen_steeleHEEL
NAO are tag champs. Batista has won the #RoyalRumble, Orton beat Cena for the unified titles

You got your Attitude Era back. Happy now?

Batista wasn’t in the Attitude era. Neither was Orton. Both were products of the Ruthless Aggression era. So if the WWE’s answer to my Attitude-era cravings is that the New Age Outlaws are the Tag Team Champions and that’s it, I’d be pretty steamed. Especially when you consider one half of the ex-Champs (Goldust) was in the Attitude era.

#29: Big E Langston

David Simon ‏@davesimonmma
Big E Langston enters at 29 and suplexes Batista. #WWE #RoyalRumble

I don’t remember much else after that. Good thing or bad… you tell me.

#30: Rey Mysterio

David Simon ‏@davesimonmma
I have never been more disappointed to see Rey Mysterio. Crowd is booing. We want Daniel Bryan!!!! #WWE #RoyalRumble

There was already an unsettling feeling that Daniel Bryan wasn’t going to be in the Rumble. I thought to myself; “Well, if Bryan isn’t #30, who is?” I then replayed the vignette of the few superstars that gave their reasons why they were going to win and Rey Mysterio’s face showed up, with his part ending in an energetic “Booyaka!” My heart sank and as the buzzer rang, so did the hearts of 15,000+ Pittsburgh fans.

I’d love to end it with that but an honorable mention needs to be made.

Lance Storm ‏@LanceStorm
I’m a huge fan of @WWEDanielBryan I’m just pointing out that chanting and bitching online isn’t the way to accomplish what you want.

The reason I have to include this is because it’s folks that are involved in the business such as Lance Storm that really don’t see the big picture.

Lance is assuming that because fans are complaining online, they are setting the wheels in motion to create change in the WWE. That could not be further from the truth. Complaining amongst each other is a form of communication, or a way of letting all your anger out. Fans understand that what has been done can not be changed, but it doesn’t mean they should get ridiculed for being upset.

To those chanting; they paid big, big money to attend the Royal Rumble. If they are not pleased with something they deem injustice, they have every reason to chant for that wrestler and boo the match they felt he should be a part of. Like attending a hockey game where the home team stinks it up, if the crowd is not happy they will let the company/organization know about it. Does it mean change will follow? Absolutely not. We, as fans, know that.

Not all of us can smile, accept our fate and do the Cabbage Patch dance.
