It’s not everyday you get to chat to one of the stars of the World Series Women’s Seven’s series. To get the chance to chat to FIVE therefore was something I was not about to pass up in a hurry.
Hanging Out With The Atlanta 7s Stars
This afternoon, as part of the build up to the Atlanta 7s Nathalie Marchino played host to another #MeetTheTeam Google Hangouts with stars of this weekends games, Mandy Marchak from Canada, Jillion Potter from USA, Shan Parry from Australia, Shannon Houston from Ireland and Kayla McAlister from New Zealand. I was fortunate enough to secure an invite to the hangout, and therefore this afternoon found myself more than a little bit star struck as some of the most popular players in women’s 7s greeted myself and a select group of fans
Firstly it has to be said, these Meet The Teams events are a great way ti grow the popularity of the game. Allowing fans unprecedented access to player to actually put questions of their own to the players is a fantastic idea, anything that encourages fa engagement of this level can only benefit the sport.
The topics were varied, ranging from issues with the weather, Parry commenting how the Australian team had been stuck in Dallas, to which player would be the first to go in the snowpocalypse (as the weather conditions have been called)
I managed to get a couple of questions of my own in, particularly looking at Marchak’s conditioning after a break with injury. Marchak however is more than ready to take the field again and will no doubt be a key playmaker this weekend.
Check out the entire hangout below thanks to USA Rugby and the Atlanta 7s. You can watch the entire Atlanta 7s, with all the games being streamed on the WSWS Irb Website here. You can also keep in touch with the news from the games here at the Atlanta 7s twitter feed. Thank you to Atlanta 7s and Nathalie for allowing me the opportunity to join in today, and for letting us use this footage.
