Rich Peverley Collapses on Stars Bench

Co-Author with Cristiano Simonetta

Breaking:  A scary scene in the NHL tonight as Rich Peverley has collapsed on the Dallas Stars bench during their game tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Peverley was immediately carried down the tunnel by the team’s staff, without a stretcher, with 13:37 remaining in the first period.

Peverley, 31, missed the entire preseason and the first game of this year after it was revealed that he was suffering from an irregular heartbeat. He most recently missed last week’s game against the Blue Jackets due to the same symptoms.

Update: Some good news in an update, via Darren Millard of Sportsnet.

It was a scary situation as Peverley appeared in distress on the bench and teammates began motioning for a trainer to come over. The game was delayed for several minutes while Peverley received medical attention.  Both teams headed to their respective locker rooms. Columbus lead 1-0 at the time as a result of an early Nathan Horton tally.

Further Update:  The Remainder of the game has been postponed, bringing eerie similarity to the Jiri Fischer situation so many years ago.  Lets hope for Peverley’s sake that he does as well as Fischer did on that day.

From the Stars Twitter Account

Peverley was acquired by the Stars this past summer as part of the big Tyler Seguin and Loui Eriksson trade. The 31-year-old has seven goals and 23 assists for 30 points in 62 games for the Stars so far this season.

It has been quite a scary week in the hockey world as stories involving Calgary Flames forward Matt Stajan, rising French prospect Tim Bozon, and OHL player Terry Trafford have surfaced.

We here at Sports Events Guide give our thoughts and prayers to Rich Peverely and his family as they deal with this horrifying situation.
