Week 10 CFL Predictions
Ottawa Redblacks at Montreal Alouettes
Nick’s thoughts: Labour Day week includes some amazing matchups and rivalries, and also this one, featuring the two weakest teams in the league. This Montreal-Ottawa game starts a new chapter in CFL history with two struggling rosters. Henry Burris was booed at TD Place Stadium, while Montreal can’t seem to find a replacement QB for Anthony Calvillo. Thomas DeMarco should get the start for the RedBlacks but who the Alouettes will put behind center is completely unknown – who knows, maybe Jeff Garcia? At least the older generation of fans will enjoy the nostalgia factor for this game.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Saskatchewan Roughriders
Lance’s thoughts: It’s another Labour day matchup in Regina with a new-look, new-hope Bomber squad, not the helpless and hapless ones of 2013, when they were squashed, or the 52-0 stomping of 2012. The Bombers look much better this year, under new leadership and a starting QB that doesn’t seem to let the distractions in the Manitoba capital get to him. But not everything favours the Bombers: this is Labour Day, this is playing in front of the Rider faithful who promise to not let up on Drew Willy in the huddle. The Riders have dominated this affair the last decade with 9 wins and 1 loss, and don’t expect that to change this year. Even with uncertainty around Durant, backup Tino Sunseri helped pull out a huge win in Vancouver in Week 9 to prove his competence. It’s going to be loud the Bombers will have to stop the run, which they can’t.

Nicholas Di Giovanni: Winnipeg 23 – Saskatchewan 32
Steve Gifkins: Winnipeg 31 – Saskatchewan 21
Lance Keiser: Winnipeg 22 – Saskatchewan 27
Toronto Argonauts at Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Steve’s thoughts: For the first time since 2011, the traditional Labour Day matchup in Hamilton has finally returned. Both teams come limping into the game with injury-riddled lineups. A win in this game could be a huge boost for either team’s confidence down the stretch. Jeremiah Masoli should get the start against an Argos defense who is stingy against the pass, ranking 3rd in the CFL. Masoli will likely use his legs to gain yards as the Argos are ranked dead last in rush yards against, giving up 115 yards per game. On the other side Toronto QB Ricky Ray seems to step up his game as the intensity increases, and no game is more intense then Labour Day against Hamilton.

Lance Keiser: Toronto 31 – Hamilton 25
Edmonton Eskimos at Calgary Stampeders
Matt’s thoughts: The league’s two best records are on the line, and this is likely to be an absolute barn-burner of a game. Both teams are sitting on three straight wins, and both are coming off solid performances against weak East division opposition. Is there anything to choose between them? Mike Reilly’s a little more successful as a passer… John Cornish is back and already looking good… but no, this one’s a wash. It’s going to be close but I’ll give it to Edmonton.

Week 9 Notes
The picks were pretty straightforward in Week 9, and most of the LWOS crew were in lockstep. Anyone who deviated from the hivemind – Lance and Steve – ended 3-1, while those who went the obvious route, Matt and Nick, were a perfect 4-0.
Commenter salty1264 also went 4-0, which he assures me is not a fluke.
