Ghanaian National Samuel Inkoom Signs with DC

DC United announced this afternoon that they had signed Ghanaian national team right back Samuel Inkoom to, “provide us solid depth at the wide midfield and outside back positions.” He is known for his blistering speed and should complement the likes of left back Taylor Kemp on the United game day roster, allowing DC to launch attacks from deep in their defensive half. The team also explicitly stated he would help in the wide midfield positions, helping to cover for Chris Rolfe in his absence after breaking his arm in training. He also provides a great secondary option for Sean Franklin, who has developed into one of United’s fan favorites, allowing Ben Olsen to rest some of his usual starters. The acquisition is a timely one for United, and fills several needs for the team simultaneously. Going into the end-of-season stretch and MLS Playoffs, not to mention the CONCACAF Champions League, Inkoom will provide the team with another option in the defense and midfield when it will be most sorely needed.

Samuel Inkoom began his career playing for Sekondi Hasaacas in the twin cities of Sekondi-Takoradi, Uganda in the Globacom Premier League in 2007. He was transferred to Asante Kotoko in 2009, and then finally ended up playing in the Swiss Super League with FC Basel later that year. His time in Switzerland saw Basel win both the 2010 Swiss Super League and 2010 Swiss Cup. In early 2011, he was transferred to FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk of the Ukrainian Premier League. In 2013 he was loaned to Ligue 1 Side SC Bastia, and he spend most of 2014 with Platanias FC of Superleague Greece. Inkoom also had a career with the Ghana National Team extending back to their youth program, having played for the U-17, U20, and senior Men’s National Teams, including the U20 side that won the 2009 African Youth Championship in Rwanda.  The 25 year-old has been a member of two Ghana World Cup squads, including the 2010 side that knocked the United States out of the tournament in the Round of 16.
