With the International break now over, thoughts will return to premier league action and of course, fantasy premier league. All over the UK and indeed worldwide, partners will breathe a sigh of relief as the endless sighing, looking aimlessly at the computer and walking up and down the room draws to an end. Of course the return of the Premier league brings about more problems, absenteeism. Those involved in fantasy leagues will skulk of to their respective corners of the house to finalise their team.
Which brings me to my latest column for the Sports Events Guide. I, @trevkeane from FanFeud, want to help you get the most of your time with your respective other, which is why I have picked three players to watch out for this weekend.
Raheem Sterling
The teenager caused quiet the stir at the weekend with his proclamation of tiredness. Thankfully England took note and rested the youngster. With his ever growing importance to the Liverpool team not to mention his mandatory rest in between training granted by Brendan Rodgers, the likelihood is that Sterling will start this weekend and if he does he is a good bet to score or assist against the porous defence of the Hoops especially with Daniel Sturridge, a muse of sorts for Sterling, (or is that the other way round) back in action. Sterling has played 555 minutes of EPL football this season and has been involved in all the club’s games. He has registered 3 goals and 2 assists with 8 shots on goal.
Saido Berahino
The West Bromwich forward has been in fine form in recent week. On his last outing at Anfield he was a thorn in the Liverpool defence, scoring in the process. That performance came after a deadly double against Burnley. The young forward appears destined for big things given his start to the season and while the International break may have taken the sting out of him the chances are a generous United defence will give him the chance to put it back in. Berahino has scored 5 goals from 11 shots on goal.
Romelu Lukaku
While it would be tempting every week to name Angel Di Maria as one to watch every week I have to spread my wings. With that in mind I have spread them like an angle and chosen an out of form player in the shape of Lukaku. The Belgian star has enjoyed two glorious seasons on loan at WBA and Everton however he has struggled somewhat since making his move to Goodison Park permanent in the summer. In 7 matches this season, 593 minutes of football, Lukaku has registered 7 shots on goal, 7 off target claiming 2 goals and 1 assist. His form is set to turn at some point and what better time than against a Villa side that has had the wind taken out of its sails with recent defeats to Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. The Villians have conceded 8 goals during that run with none scored so their confidence will be fragile, something Lukaku can take advantage of.
