Formula E Half Term Report: Dragon Racing

With an IndyCar and a former F1 driver piloting Dragon Racing’s inaugural season, qualifying in Beijing proved difficult; Jerome d’Ambrosio in 13th and Oriol Sevia in 11th. However, a good strategy saw both drivers finish well in the points in sixth and seventh respectively, propelling them with optimism as they team headed to Putrajaya.

In qualifying, both were provisionally second and third with Nico Prost’s penalty for his Beijing collision with Nick Heidfeld meaning he would be demoted from pole to tenth place. As a result, Dragon Racing locked out the front row. However, it was not to be. d’Ambrosio was found to have exceeded his power usage and was sent to the back of the grid whilst Servia started from pole. However, an excellent battle with Virgin’s Sam Bird as Servia lose out and consequently fall down the field to finish seventh whilst his Belgian teammate drove a miraculous recovery drive to finish fifth, picking up ten points.

However, the next race in Punta del Este didn’t recreate the amazing qualifying of Putrajaya with D’ambrosio 19th and Servia 12th on the grid. Once again though, the Dragon teammates powered their way through to finish eighth and ninth.

Finally in Buenos Aires, the team lined up 18th and 13th but this time only Servia came through to the points with a ninth place finish. Nevertheless, the Dragon team have proved to be one of the most consistent on the grid which should dtand them in good stead for the remainder of the season. They currently lie fifth in the constructors with D’ambrosio and Sevia in eighth and 12th respectively.
