Kyle Busch Dominates the Furious 7 300 at Chicago

It is a rare day in NASCAR that fans get to be treated to two races from national touring series on the same track. Thanks to Mother Nature, the Camping World Truck Series took the first leg of what would be a doubleheader early this morning. In the evening, it was time for the drivers of the Xfinity Series to light up the track.

Earlier in the afternoon, Kyle Busch (#54 Monster Energy Toyota) lit up the field in qualifying, putting together a one-two-three start for Joe Gibbs Racing. Fellow Chase racer Matt Kenseth (#20 Reser’s Toyota) would start second and rookie teammate Daniel Suarez (#18 Arris Toyota) in third.

Much like they did in qualifying, Joe Gibbs Racing would dominate much of the race at Chicagoland Speedway, with Busch and Kenseth swapping the lead back and forth for much of the affair. While teammate Daniel Suarez would slide back, another Xfinity Series regular would take the lead briefly on tire strategy, and that was Brian Scott (#2 Jewel Osco Chevy).

Meanwhile, the field was trying to play catch-up and just stay in the same zip code as the Joe Gibbs Racing team. While Brian Scott would be up to the task for Richard Childress Racing, there would be only one other Xfinity Series regular who was up for the challenge. That was Darrell Wallace Jr. (#6 Ford).

Wallace, with an impressive run to twelfth in qualifying, would rally to third in the race at Chicago. His run would be stunted by the need to save fuel, as so many would be as the race wore to its end.

Fuel mileage or not, Kyle Busch was unstoppable at Chicagoland Speedway. He would win the Furious 7 300 at Chicago from the pole, in absolutely dominant fashion. Teammate Matt Kenseth would come home in second, and Darrell Wallace Jr. in third.

The points championship chase would spread slightly over the course of the race. Chris Buescher (#60 Fifth Third Bank Ford) would come home seventh, expanding his points lead to twenty-five points over Chase Elliott (#9 NAPA Chevy). Ty Dillon (#3 Bass Pro Chevy) would remain third in points, picking up only two points on Buescher with a fifth place finish.

Next up for the Xfinity Series will be a standalone race next Saturday at Kentucky Speedway. Tune in and see the race live on NBCSN, as the series regulars look to put on a great show without the Cup drivers in the field.
