There is nothing better than turning the television on to the late night Golden State Warriors game and hearing those wonderful words being said by ESPN announcer Kevin Harlen, “Curry For three… And it’s good!” It has got to be by far the best line in all of sports.
Now, to get to what’s important, which is the special talent making all those magnificent treys. When listening to people talk about the greatest player in the NBA today, a lot of the time you would hear the name LeBron James. On some levels, yes, James could be the best because of his athleticism and ability to attack the basket, but right now, no one, not even King James, is coming close to being the generational and all world talent that Steph Curry has become. He takes over ball games like almost no player ever has. Of course, all you have to do is look up Curry highlights on YouTube and you will find an infinite amount of footage on why he is the best, or you can just do it the old fashioned way, by looking up his stats and wondering to yourself “how does a man put up numbers like that.”
Since we’re talking about who the best player in today’s NBA is, let’s look at Curry’s stats and then take a look at James’ stats and see who the more valuable player is.
Curry has already broken the record for most made three pointers in a single season which was held by none other than Steph Curry himself and is on pace to SHATTER that record! After this year, he is going to have the most, second most and third most three pointers made in a year in league history. Absolutely incredible. Some might say it is because of all the shots he takes, but currently, he has the second best career three point shooting percentage and it wouldn’t be surprising if he breaks that record eventually. My favorite stat of all is that Steph Curry is the first and only player in the history of the NBA to score at least 300 three pointers in a single regular season and still has three more games to keep on adding to that record. He is also averaging the most points per game with 30. James Harden who is averaging the second most points per game, is behind with 28.7 PPG. Steph is also second in the NBA in free throw shooting at 90%.
The only surprising thing that is to be mentioned about Curry is that Tyreke Evans won rookie of the year over him.
Now, on to LeBron James, which will be short and to the point. We all know that he is an elite talent, but on defense, he can fall asleep on occasion. James shoots 73% from the free throw line and 29% from downtown, which is not terrible but is no where close to Curry. On offense, he ranks in the top 10 in only one category, scoring, where unsurprisingly, Curry ranks number one! Looking even deeper in the James-Curry debate, you just have to go back to last year’s NBA Finals and see who came out victorious.
So remember, whenever you turn on your television to watch a ball game and are deciding on either watching LeBron James and the Cavs or Steph Curry and the Warriors, you all know who to choose.
