Report: Cowboys Have Made A Trade Offer For QB Mike Glennon

One particular quarterback whose name keeps resurfacing in trade rumors is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup signal caller, Mike Glennon.

As players from around the NFL begin to participate in their teams OTAs, as they prepare for Training Camp and eventually preseason football. For the Dallas Cowboys, they’d like to head into training camp with a legitimate and reliable backup quarterback for Tony Romo.

One particular quarterback whose name keeps resurfacing in trade rumors is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup signal caller, Mike Glennon. The former third round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft has been the subject of many trade rumors going back to 2014, with a number of teams expressing interest in the former NC State Wolfpack quarterback. Despite teams interest, none of the NFL teams that are in a need of a quality backup were able to pull off a trade during the 2016 NFL Draft. According to sources close to Tampa Bay, the Cowboys are the only team with a standing offer on the table for Glennon, but are the Bucs willing to trade their backup quarterback?

Glennon, 26, is heading into the final year of his rookie contract. If he is ultimately traded to Dallas, he’d be a lot more valuable behind Romo then he would if he stayed in Tampa backing up Jameis Winston

When training camp starts for Jerry Jones‘ Cowboys, it’ll be interesting to see if Jones makes a play for Glennon, or if he decides to roll the dice with the quarterbacks that are already on the roster. Those players include Kellen Moorerookie Dak Prescott, and Jameil Showers. If Dallas does indeed have an offer on the table for Mike Glennon, then it’s a safe bet to assume that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys coaching staff are not fully confident in the quarterbacks that are currently on the roster.

Regardless of who is backing up Tony Romo in 2016, the Cowboys season rest solely on the health of their four-time Pro Bowl quarterback. So keeping Romo safe and upright will be the job of his offensive line, which will be a top priority if the Cowboys plan to contend in the NFC East this season. After leading his team to a division title in 2014, the fans of the Dallas Cowboys, and Tony Romo’s harshest critics found out just how important he is to this team.

Without Romo under center in 2015, the Cowboys finished in last place in the NFC East with a record of 4-12. Three of those four wins were courtesy of their franchise quarterback, who went 3-1 in four starts.

For his career, Romo has thrown for 33,626 yards (Cowboys record) with 245 touchdowns (Cowboys record).
