“Made the decision today to sign my contract with the CFL and further my football career after a long break. Very grateful for everyone that’s been supporting me along the way. I believe this is the best opportunity for me moving forward and I’m eager for what the future holds.”
Hamilton Tiger-Cats Sign Johnny Manziel
The former Cleveland Browns quarterback has had a very public negotiation with the CFL team since the possibility first presented itself last fall. It was last March when the team confirmed it had exclusive CFL negotiating rights with Manziel. Having cleared legal hurdles that initially stood in the way of him signing north of the border, the two sides have been back-and-forth since.
Back in December, current Tiger-Cats head coach speculated that: “I think he’d be the best player to ever play up here. He can throw it and he can run it like nobody ever has been able to do.”
Certainly the 65-yard wide field—around 12 yards wider than he’s accustomed—will definitely play to his athletic abilities. Whether he has the accuracy to go with his mobility will be the difference-maker in a league that relies heavily on passing.
