FANTASY PROFILE, SCOOTER GENNETT, 2B, MILWAUKEE BREWERS
LWOS Ranking 19, Captain’s Value: $6.79
Last year, Scooter Gennett showed some signs of progress as he hit .289 and hit 9 HR. Even though his wRC+ went from 130 to 104 last year, there are some encouraging signs. Gennett was more disciplined at the plate as he saw a slight spike in BB% (4.3% to 4.6%) and very healthy decrease in K% (18.3% to 14.1%).
Despite numbers that are respectable overall, Gennett saw a modest amount of playing time (474 Plate Appearances). One reason for that is while he has a .323 career average against right handed pitchers, he has yet to demonstrate the ability to hit left handed pitching. In his career, he has hit .128 against lefties in 83 plate appearances.
Either way, his struggles against lefties has a negative impact on his value. If he continues to be consistently benched against lefties, he is likely to hit for a strong average but have a lesser impact on counting stats. If the Brewers decide to start him against lefties, he could see his batting average decrease.
