This Ben Simmons NBA Draft profile dives into the strengths and weaknesses of the power forward.
Ben Simmons – POWER FORWARD – 6’10” 238 LBS, LSU, 19 YEARS OLD
Ben Simmons is a power forward who played one season for Louisiana State University. Simmons is expected to be the number one pick overall in the NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.
Strengths
Simmons nearly has it all. He is very versatile and can score from inside or outside. Simmons is such a good ball handler that despite his 6’10” size can bring the ball up the court on the dribble. He is very strong and has a high basketball IQ. Simmons is also a great passer.
Weaknesses
Simmons needs to improve his 3-point shot especially for today’s NBA. While he can power the ball inside, he will need both aspects to be a true star in the NBA. Simmons can also be unselfish at times. In his one year at LSU, it seemed that Simmons took plays off.
NBA Potential
Simmons projects to be a star in the NBA. There seems to be nothing that he cannot do. Assuming that once he is in the NBA, Simmons continues to work hard and improve, it will not be a surprise if he ends up a perennial All-Star.
NBA Player Comparison
A lot of scouts compare Simmons to LeBron James. Certainly, his size and his dribbling and passing skills are a match. There is similarity in the fact that Simmons, like James, is accused of passing too much. However, comparing a young player to James is also unfair in that it is hard to not fail in comparison.
