Saracens Women will be without Sonia Green for the foreseeable future after the lock broke her right leg in the defeat to Harlequins Ladies on Saturday.

Green was injured on the stroke of half-time and left the pitch on a stretcher. Subsequent x-rays showed a broken fibula.

The 34-year-old is a Saracens legend, having played for the club for 18 years, and her coaches and teammates were quick to wish her well.

“Sonic is a true stalwart of the club,” said head coach Alex Austerberry. “We hope for the best but we have to plan for the worst, so we’ll see how the x-rays come back.

“Her misfortune is someone else’s opportunity and hopefully whoever comes in will do an equally good job, and we look forward to getting Sonic back sooner rather than later.”

Captain Lotte Clapp said: “Sonic is such an amazing player and such a great player to have on the pitch. She does all the hard work, which sometimes goes unnoticed if you’re watching from the sideline.

“The amount of work she does on the pitch is ridiculous, and to have her out now is a real loss. We all really hope she gets back soon.”

Saracens Women’s next game is against Gloucester Hartpury at Allianz Park on Sunday 28 October, kick-off 15H45. The Development XV are playing beforehand at 13H00.
