The Sioux Falls Storm defeated the Wichita Falls Nighthawks last night in a battle of the Indoor Football League’s final two undefeated teams. Now, there’s no one left to stop the Storm. They’re headed for their seventh consecutive United Bowl title.
Sioux Falls Storm Headed Towards Title
Coming into the game Saturday night, Wichita Falls had dominated all of their opponents to get to 4-0. IFL fans and media alike thought they would be able to give Sioux Falls a run for their money. Some even though they could end the Storm’s 64-game home inning streak.
That’s not how things turned out. The Storm won by a final score of 55-21. The Nighthawks are looked at as Sioux Falls’ biggest threat this season. There’s not another team that could really stop the Storm now.
Where’s The Competition?
Six of the 10 teams in the IFL are either at .500 or below .500. There are also two winless teams in the Cedar Rapids Titans and Colorado Crush.
The Arizona Rattlers came to the IFL after leaving the Arena Football League. Despite being looked at as a threat to the league, the Rattlers currently sit at a 1-2 record. That includes an opening loss to Sioux Falls.
The Spokane Empire would be the second biggest threat to the Storm’s path to their seventh consecutive title. The two teams don’t square off until May 6, so there’s no telling how they match up against each other.
What can be observed is that the Nighthawks beat the Empire by just one point, 57-56, in Week 3. What that says is that if those two teams can stay close and Sioux Falls dominated Wichita Falls, the Storm should have no problem stopping the Empire.
The Storm have won the last six United Bowl championships. This year’s United Bowl is expected to be plater on Saturday, July 23. Expect the Storm to be a part of it. Also don’t be surprised if they win it all.
