Top Highlights from Round 1 of The Open Championship

The sun shined and the rain held off around Scotland’s Carnoustie Golf Links for the first round of the 147th Open Championship. Despite the better than expected weather, players still had to battle less than ideal conditions around the course. Heading into Friday, Kevin Kisner leads the field at 5-under par but plenty of others made highlights of their own throughout Thursday’s opening round.

Going for it all on the greens at The Open Championship

With all eyes on his return to Carnoustie, Tiger Woods opened his round to a chorus of roars from the gallery with a birdie on his first hole of the day.

Rickie Fowler gets things rolling early with a lengthy birdie putt on the 3rd hole of the day.

The 2016 Open Champion, Henrik Stenson, moved to under par with back to back birdies.

South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen dials in his birdie putt from across the green on the 14th hole.

Michael Kim proved he didn’t need to be on the green at 11 to make magic with his putter.

Eagles soar at Carnoustie

Currently sitting at a tie for 8th England’s Matthew Southgate drained the first eagle putt of the 2018 Open Championship on the 6th hole.

Speaking of the 6th hole, 2015 Open Champion Zach Johnson turned in an eagle putt of his own on the 580 yard par-5.

Scotland’s native son, Russell Knox, battles back to 1-over par with an eagle at the par-5 14th.

Hole outs, Near history and more at The Open

Teeing it up at the par-3 8th, Ryan Moore nearly made the first hole in one of the 147th Open Championship on Thursday.

While he’s still in the back of the field, Tom Lehman had something to smile about after chipping in for his first birdie of the day on the par-4 17th hole.

The 17th hole at Carnoustie also provided the shot of the day when to Kiradech Aphibarnrat one hop dunked his approach shot for birdie.
