We’re in the home stretch of the season and we’re down to three Hump Days on the 2013 season. I know, I know, I would’ve liked a few more myself, but sometimes you just can’t get what you want. Or maybe the Giants were on the naughty list this year because they didn’t take good enough care of their possessions. (See what I did there?). But I take solace in this one fact, and you should, too: Thank goodness we aren’t Washington.
Fare Thee Well, Brandon Jacobs: The Giants put the big bruiser on the injured-reserve yesterday ending his season and potentially, his career. He’ll always be remembered fondly because he physically exemplified what Giants football has always been about at their core: Bruising, hat-on-a-hat downhill running while taking the pile with the runner. In some ways, Jacobs would have been better suited for the Giants of the 80’s. Before today, also known as the era of talking out of both ends of the league’s mouth about the guise of player safety, Jacobs would’ve been the perfect battering ram in a Bill Parcells offense. I’m pretty sure he would’ve loved the times where defense was actually played and players could impose their will without fear of repercussions.
But sometimes the body just says enough, and it appears that Father Time will remain undefeated. His last hurrah appears to have come in early October against the Bears, where he seemed to run like a man possessed; happy to have the second chance after making a huge mistake in trying to make it in San Francisco. It was a pleasant punctuation and scene in a season that hasn’t had many.
Seahawks to Check Out the Digs: The Seahawks come calling on Sunday. Let’s be honest it probably won’t be pretty. The Giants are already making off-season plans. Add in Russell Wilson against a “just-occasional” pass-rush (that will have Jason Pierre-Paul) and Marshawn Lynch against, well, anybody, really. Eli’s bunch and turnovers against a stout defense and an ultra-awesome moniker in “The Legion of Boom.” The Seahawks are looking to crash here in February and if last week was anything to go by, the Giants don’t seem all that interested in fighting anymore. So…
Up Next: The Seahawks won’t look quite as proficient as they do in front of the 12th Man, but the Seashawks are the NFC’s best for a reason. They do everything well; still have home-field to play for; and are going up against a Giants team that just isn’t good this year. Win or lose for the Giants, they come out okay. Win and you delay Seattle’s quest to lock up home-field by at least one week. Lose, and the pick gets stronger. Which, as much as it hurts to say, is more important right now. Seahawks will cruise, 24-13.
