Mako

Mako Vunipola believes Saracens are building nicely after their win over Harlequins kept them second in the Gallagher Premiership table.

The Men in Black are looking to keep pushing towards the summit of the top flight, and the captain says the result was the most important thing in the local derby at StoneX.

“The conditions dictated the game, it was one for the purists but both sides were going for each other and we’re just glad to come out on top.” Said the 31-year-old.

He added: “It was important for us to stay alive as Quins have dangerous players all over the pitch. I thought we stayed disciplined and made our tackles well. Over the last couple of weeks we’ve got better and you saw what it meant when we got that scrum penalty at the end.

Again, defensively we stuck in there and we just trust ourselves. We’re going to keep taking it week by week and just play as well as we can.”

The signs have been encouraging with back-to-back home wins against Bath and Quins, and Vunipola wants the North Londoners to keep grinding away as they look to consolidate their top four place.

“Performances will dictate the result and we did that today so we’ve got a few learnings to take from it and we’ll work to get better.”
