LWOS Week 4 College Football Rankings

The Sports Events Guide writers published their first ever rankings last week, just in time for some chaos across the nation. This season is just starting to get fun.  This week’s rankings will show quite a bit of movement, based on the weekend’s results.  As a reminder, many of these same writers conspired to predict the College Football Playoff participants and the outcomes of the match ups between them here.

LWOS Week 4 College Football Rankings

(1st Place votes)

1 Oregon(2) The Oregon Ducks survived a surprising test from the Washington State Cougars, winning 38-31. Nevertheless, the Ducks are 4-0 with a marquee victory against another top 10 team in Michigan State, so they remain at the top of our standings. – Al Preziosi

2 Florida State(3) Rashad Greene’s big 74-yard touchdown forced overtime where Florida State was able to avoid the upset against Clemson. The ‘Noles will get Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston back for another ACC match-up against NC State. – Anthony Murphy

3 Oklahoma (2) Sooners survived their trip to Morgantown by crankig up the offense in the second half. Next up is a well-earned bye. – Donald King

4 Alabama (2) Bama absolutely decimated Florida, and they look poised for dominance for the remainder of the SEC schedule. But who’s more daunting at this point: LSU or Mississippi State? – Michael Gray

5

Auburn

(1)

The #5 Tigers survived from an upset scare this past Thursday in Manhattan. Auburn QB Nick Marshall threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns in a mild offensive night for the team. Auburn looks to face Louisiana Tech this Saturday. – Kaden Kotinek

6 Texas A&M (1) Kenny Trill and the Aggies thumped SMU last week, and continue its tour of former SWC rivals against the Hogs at Jerry World next week. Should be highly entertaining. – Donald King

7 Baylor Baylor got some rest in Week 4, ut lost no ground in the national rankings. Win out, and say hello to the CFP. – Donald King

8 Mississippi Ole Miss gets Memphis at home in a final tune-up prior to its big game against the Crimson Tide. Is this a trap game? Careful, Rebels. – Donald King

9 Notre Dame The Irish had week four off and will travel to MetLife Stadium on Saturday looking for revenge against a Syracuse team that came out on top during these teams’ last meeting in 2008. Though the Orange are technically the home team, Notre Dame will probably have the home field advantage in the stands. – John Bava

10 Michigan State Sparty spanked Eastern Michigan last week, and gets a visit from Wyoming this week. Should be another laugher before conference play starts. – Donald King

11 UCLA Bruins have survived the early part of the season and enjoyed a bye week this weekend. They have a huge match-up on Thursday with up-and-coming Arizona State. A must watch.- Mike Loveall

12 Arizona State The Sun Devils welcome UCLA to the Valley of the Sun Thursday night. Winner has the inside track in the PAC-12 South. – Donald King

13 Georgia Georgia blasted Troy last week, and welcomes rival Tennessee between the hedges next week. Expect a lot of Gurley runs. – Donald King

14 South Carolina Spurrier’s Gamecocks struggled to put away Vanderbilt, prior to pulling away late. Reeling Mizzou visits Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday. – Donald King

15 Stanford Probably thankful they had a bye weekend on this crazy weekend.   With Oregon looking vulnerable against Wazzu, Stanford still has hopes for PAC 12 championship game. Big game against Washington this Saturday.- Mike Loveall

16 Mississippi State HUGE win for the Bulldogs in Death Valley, at night. Brutal schedule, but Mississippi State may make noise in the SEC West. – Donald King

17 LSU Heartbreaking loss to up and coming Mississippi State is even more devastating when you think they still have Alabama, Texas A&M, Auburn and Ole Miss on their schedule. – Anthony Murphy

18 USC USC had a bye week this week and I’m sure they are looking forward to playing Oregon State and putting the Boston College game behind them. They have a legitimate shot to win the Pac-12 South, as the division is wide open and they are 1-0 in conference play. – Al Preziosi

19 Wisconsin Melvin Gordon just scored again… Bucky welcomes South Florida to Camp Randall next week. Loss to LSU looks a little worse now, though. – Donald King

20 BYU The Cougars prevailed over a stubborn UVa team at home. Taysom Hill and company get a bye before their quest for perfection continues. – Donald King

21 Nebraska Good win at home for the Huskers over old rival Miami. Can Nebraska run the table and make the CFP? – Donald King

22 Ohio State Ohio State had a bye week in week 4 of the college football season, and looks to bounce back from a week 2 loss from Virginia Tech against undefeated Cincinnati in Columbus. – Kaden Kotinek

23 East Carolina Ruffin McNeal’s guys dropped 70 on UNC on Saturday. Ouch. This team will be tough to top in the AAC. – Donald King

24 Oklahoma State Similar to five other teams in the Big XII, the Cowboys were idle in week four. After going 2-1 in non-conference play which included an impressive effort against Florida State, they face Texas Tech Thursday night in the conference opener for both teams. – John Bava

25 Penn State With the postseason in its sights, Penn State is showing they enjoy having something to play for. A 4-0 start is just what the doctor ordered in 2014. – Michael Gray
