Barry Bonds is back in orange and black for 2017. The San Francisco Giants announced the hiring of the seven-time NL MVP as a special advisor to the CEO on Tuesday.

“We are delighted to welcome Barry back home to the Giants,” Giants CEO Larry Baer said in the club’s press release. “As one of the greatest players of all-time, Barry’s contributions to our organization are legendary. He joins Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda and other distinguished alumni who help advise the club and we look forward to working with him again.”
According to the release, Bonds will represent the Giants organization at various functions and events around the San Francisco community, as well as attend Spring Training in Scottsdale and instruct players in minor league camp.
Bonds spent 2016 as co-hitting instructor with the Miami Marlins, his first official job in baseball since his retirement following the 2007 season. He signed with the Giants as a free agent before the 1993 season and enjoyed success playing left field in the city by the bay. Bonds earned 12 NL All-Star nods as a member of the Giants, while notching five MVP awards and five Gold Gloves with the club.
His most notable accomplishments in a Giants uniform include the single-season home run record in 2001, helping clinch the NL Pennant in 2002, and breaking the all-time home run record in 2007.
“I am excited to be back home with the Giants and join the team in an official capacity,” Bonds said in the release. “San Francisco has always been my home and the Giants will always be my family. I look forward to spending time with the team, young players in the system as well as the Bay Area community.”
