The San Diego Padres have acquired Austin Nola, Dan Altavilla, and Austin Adams from the Seattle Mariners for Luis Torrens, Ty France, Taylor Trammell, and Andres Munoz. This was the fourth trade the Padres have made in the last two days. The Padres acquired relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal from the Kansas City Royals, Jason Castro from the Los Angeles Angels, and Mitch Moreland from the Boston Red Sox. The Padres are still in the market for starting pitching. So don’t be surprised to see the Padres make another move before the trading deadline expires.

New Padres Additions
Austin Nola is the key addition for the Padres. The 30-year-old catcher is batting .306 with five home runs and 19 RBI this season. In his two Major League seasons, Nola has also played first base, second base, third base, left field, and right field. Nola and the newly acquired Castro will split the duties behind the dish with Nola also being able to spell other position players down the stretch of the season. Nola’s career batting average is .280 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI. In eight minor league seasons, Nola batted .252 with 22 homers and 299 RBI.
Relief pitcher Dan Altavilla is not having a good season to date. His record is 1-2 with a 7.71 ERA and a 1.629 WHIP. For his career, Altavilla is 7-6 with a 4.08 ERA and a 1.330 WHIP. In five seasons Altavilla has only 106 innings pitched. The 27-year-old reliever pitched better in the minors with a 25-21 record and a 3.70 ERA and a 1.308 WHIP.
Austin Adams has been on the injured list since September of 2019 but he has been throwing in the Mariners alternate site. Adams has an even smaller sample size than Altavilla but with better results. In his three Major League seasons Adams is 2-2 with a 3.79 ERA and a 1.368 WHIP. The 28-year-old righty went 16-14 with a 3.34 ERA and a 1.335 WHIP in eight Minor League seasons. Adams is expected to join the Padres sometime in September.
Mariners Additions
The Mariners who are in full-blown rebuild mode have added four players to their loaded farm system. Going into this season the Mariners had five prospects ranked in the top 60 by MLB Pipeline. The centerpiece of this trade for the Mariners is Taylor Trammell who is ranked as the 60th best prospect by MLB Pipeline. This is the second straight year that Trammell has been traded. In four Minor League seasons, Trammell is batting .270 with 33 home runs and 195 RBI. Trammell who is only 21 years old still has plenty of upside.
Ty France is 25 years old and has played second and third base in his two Major League seasons. France has a career batting average of .251 with nine home runs and 34 RBI in only 235 at-bats. In five Minor League seasons, France batted .294 with 69 home runs and 352 RBI.
Luis Torrens is a 24-year-old catcher who has 148 Major League at-bats. Torrens is batting .256 with no home runs and seven RBI. The 24-year-old backstop has played five minor league seasons and is batting .272 with 27 homers and 186 RBI.
Andres Munoz pitched in 22 games in 2019 with a 1-1 record and a 3.91 ERA and a 1.174 WHIP. Munoz who is only 21 years old has been in the Padres organization since 2016 when he was 17 years old. Munoz has a Minor League record of 9-6 with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.264.
