The Chicago White Sox are supposedly going to trade away a number of their players before the trade deadline. Despite their awful record, they sneakily retain plenty of talent. They have some guys who would do well in other environments and contribute to winning on a different team. The White Sox have said they want to be sellers as the trade deadline nears, so some of these guys might be gone by the time August rolls around. One player in particular who could be considered a trade piece when it’s all said and done is Gavin Sheets, who has slowly been increasing his trade value throughout the season and surely has some eyes on him. Other teams have to be taking a look at this budding star and believe he would make a difference on their team.
While the White Sox may end up deciding to keep the future All-Star, the trade offers they receive for him might be too good to resist. A team that needs a quality big bat with a player that can play the outfield or first base, or act as the designated hitter, will set their sights on Sheets.
Gavin Sheets Increasing His Trade Value for White Sox
The Stats
Through the White Sox’s third game with the Boston Red Sox, Sheets has a batting average of .235 and a slugging percentage of .417. He has been to the plate a total of 220 times and has recorded 44 hits. Sheets has garnered 14 doubles, one triple, and six home runs to go along with his 23 RBI. He has struck out 38 times and is not known as a base stealer.

Sheets’ name hasn’t come up in the media just yet as someone who could be on the trading block for the Sox. But the team recently indicated that they are “open for business,” so they could let him go should the right offer come along.
The Potential
What is the right offer? Don’t expect the kind of haul that the White Sox would get if they trade away Luis Robert Jr. They won’t get nearly as much. One would think that they could get a couple of minor league players or an equivalent major league player. But they won’t get a huge haul, not like they would if they were to trade away someone like Robert Jr. or Tommy Pham. The value is there for the White Sox, but it might not be there for other teams.
If the White Sox were to keep Sheets, they could have someone to build upon for the future. They could have a big bat in the lineup, a power hitter who could be a permanent or near-permanent designated hitter. Sheets could also fill in the infield and outfield as necessary. He’s a valuable piece to the White Sox now.
Just how valuable would he be to another team? We may soon find out as we get closer to the MLB trade deadline. If the Sox end up trying to trade him, the rumors will start flying. Hopefully, if they do trade Sheets, they will be able to get maximum value for him.
