After another troubling start on Saturday, Tylor Megill was optioned to Triple-A. As a result, the Mets are most likely to bring up one of their many pitchers from Triple-A to take his position unless Adrian Houser retakes a spot, which is not likely to happen. This presents an opportunity for the Mets to bring up a promising prospect, including someone who has high potential.
Mets Could Soon Have Pitching Prospect Rejoin Rotation
Christian Scott Could Be Brought Up At Any Moment
The Mets could bring up Christian Scott to replace Tylor Megill in the rotation. Jose Butto, another prospect who has already started 7 games this season, could also be brought up, but Scott had better numbers than Butto in his five starts for New York. Scott struck out 25 and walked 6 in 27 innings pitched. This shows his ability to control the ball nicely, and it also shows his ability to strike out a good number of hitters as well. Scott had an ERA of 3.90 when he was sent down on May 31st after an impressive start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. His best start came against the Tampa Bay Rays, his MLB debut. Unfortunately, Scott never got any wins and went 0-2 because of poor offensive play from the Mets.
Scott’s Impact
Scott’s numbers in Triple-A this season have also been impressive, with 55 strikeouts and 12 walks. The biggest thing surrounding Scott is the excitement. Scott has shown the ability to get a lot of swings and misses on his pitches, and the K’s were piling up for Scott. Also, the Mets may not have even seen the best of Scott, as last season in the minors, Scott shocked and rocked with 107 strikeouts and just 12 walks.
The excitement about Scott is certainly called for once one sees the numbers from last season in the minors. The number of walks is insane, as he pitched 87.2 innings. Megill left a spot unfilled in rotation after being optioned to Triple-A. The Mets will almost certainly call up one pitcher from Triple-A. Considering that speculation about Scott coming up from the Syracuse Mets existed before Megill was sent down, there is a great chance that the man called up for the job is Scott. Butto, who might be an option for the Mets to replace Megill, also had an impressive number of strikeouts; however, the walks concerned the Mets.
Jose Butto
Butto averaged three walks per start for New York. That, at times, affected Butto, and as a result, Scott may have the upper hand. If Scott is called up for a second time, it will be very interesting to see how Scott will perform. The Mets would love to see Scott excel in his second stint with the Mets in 2024.
Overall, Christian Scott remains New York’s best pitching prospect. The exciting pitcher may soon rejoin the rotation as the Mets make a decision about it. The decision could decide the shape of the rotation for the rest of the 2024 season.
