The Los Angeles Angels have announced that 32-year-old right-handed relief pitcher Adam Cimber will be designated for assignment. The Angels activated lefty José Quijada, who has recently returned from Tommy John surgery. Due to this roster move, the Angels had to option Jack Kochanowicz to Double-A Rocket City. The reason behind Adam Cimber’s DFA was to make room for Quijada on the 40-man roster.

Cimber’s Rollercoaster Ride Career
Formerly a Toronto Blue Jays reliever, Cimber started this season on a high note but has slowed down and had some poor performances. Following this, Cimber eventually went on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder injury. After this move, Cimber is now no longer part of the Angels 40-man roster. The Portland, OR native sports a disappointing 7.03 ERA through 24 1/3 innings of work in relief for the Angels this season. His issues seemed to stem from his mechanics, but injuries have also impacted his career. He has also dealt with a back issue.
Looking side-by-side at Cimber and fellow Angels reliever Ben Joyce, both of them pitched in back-to-back innings on Sunday. But their four-seam fastballs were not the same. Joyce had a fastball of 104 mph, and Cimber’s was significantly less at 84 mph. Joyce had the second-fastest average four-seam fastball in 2023. Cimber has the second-slowest average four-seam fastball in 2024. Considering his subpar season, the Angels had no choice but to DFA Cimber. On December 13, 2023, he signed a one-year, $1.65 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels. The Blue Jays had non-tendered Cimber on November 17, 2023. His numbers last season were also not impressive. He sported an 0-2 record with a 7.40 ERA. In May of this season, Cimber performed better on the mound. On May 8th against the Pittsburgh Pirates, for example, he struck out the side.
