The New York Yankees are going to be buyers at the July 30 trade deadline. With a week to go before the deadline, the Yankees are showing interest in a variety of players. Now, they are eyeing a Toronto Blue Jays pitcher, per Jon Morosi of MLB Network. The Yankees are interested in right-hander Chad Green of the Toronto Blue Jays, a reliever who could help the bullpen. The Yankees are among the teams expected to be aggressive at the deadline in that area.
The Yankees are interested in a reunion with Chad Green, which makes sense on a number of levels:
He’s having an excellent season in Toronto.
He can close or pitch earlier leverage situations.
He was a popular teammate in New York.
He’s signed for 2025.@MLBNetwork

Yankees Eyeing Reunion with Chad Green
Green won’t be a rental player for the Yankees as he is under team control through 2025. He has been a strong spot for a poorly constructed Blue Jays roster with a 1.88 ERA, 24 strikeouts and a career-best seven saves in 28 2/3 innings. He is striking out batters at a 21.8 percent rate compared to his 8.2 percent walk rate. His ERA this season is the second-lowest mark of his career behind the 1.83 he posted with the Yankees in 2017.
Green signed with Toronto back in January 2023 on a deal that guaranteed him $8.5 million over two years. Since then, the Blue Jays exercised a two-year, $21 million club option on Green’s services. That leaves him with a total guarantee of $23.25 million over three years, including the $2.5 million he earned last season.
The Yankees bullpen has struggled lately. They rank sixth in the majors in ERA (3.46) but 17th in strikeouts and 18th in FIP. The bullpen has been impacted by injuries to key players like Ian Hamilton, Nick Burdi and Jonathan Loaisiga. Acquiring Green, especially with his value, would do wonders for the bullpen.
