Los Angeles Angels reliever Luis García is gaining much attention from several teams ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline. The New York Mets, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Kansas City Royals are all interested in García, a 37-year-old veteran righty from the Dominican Republic. The Red Sox are strongly pursuing García as they need arms. The bullpen is a pressing concern that Boston is looking to fix.

Angels Reliever Luis García on the Trade Block
García is one of the more captivating bullpen arms among MLB relievers. He uses a variety of pitches and mixes them well, including a sinker, sweeper, and splitter combo. This season, García is sporting a 3.80 ERA, 3.68 FIP, and 1.195 WHIP, along with 40 K/14 BB across 42 2/3 innings pitched. He will be a free agent at the end of this season and has $1.4 million remaining on his contract. García also has a 5-1 record on the season.
If García went to the Royals he would fit well in the back-end of the pen with Hunter Harvey and Will Smith. In his career, García has also played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Diego Padres. Teams are compelled by his veteran experience despite his age, as it’s been a trend in MLB where older players still have gas remaining in them. The Angels signed García to a one-year $4.25 million deal on December 5, 2023. This was their first big signing of last offseason. The Angels are continuously looking to rebuild and start a new slate.
Having García on a contending team is a prime choice where he can help fill a gap on another team pushing to make it to a Wild Card spot. In his 12 seasons spent in MLB, he has recorded a 4.03 ERA.
