Milwaukee Brewers reliever Trevor Megill is going on the 15-day IL due to a lower back injury. The Brewers can’t catch a break with injuries, but they still remain comfortably in first place in the National League Central. They got back Devin Williams, which will help stabilize Milwaukee’s worn-out bullpen. Williams had a strong outing in his return on Sunday, allowing no runs. The hard truth is that the Brewers are losing another significant reliever because of an injury.

Brewers Closer Trevor Megill Heads to IL with Lower Back Issue
With Megill going on the IL, Williams will step back into his role as the Brewers’ closer. Megill is set to have an MRI on his lower back to determine the severity of the injury, according to Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports. Even with that being unknown, this is certainly not the news that Brewers fans wanted to hear. It’s definitely a surprise, as Megill was warming up in last night’s game but didn’t pitch. This is the second time he has landed on the IL this season. Megill was originally developed to be a starter back in 2021, but once his career in the majors progressed, he transitioned to a bullpen role.
The right-handed pitcher has a 0-2 record with a 2.41 ERA on the season. The last time Megill was injured, he got hit by a line drive on his right forearm. Regarding his current injury, the Brewers deem it serious enough to place him on the IL. The 30-year-old previously played for the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins, and was initially drafted by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft. The plague of injuries in MLB this season continues to pile up. Megill is the third Brewers pitcher to hit the IL in the last week, joining Rob Zastryzny and Bryan Hudson.
