Brewers Lose Another Outfielder, Place Blake Perkins On IL

One of these days, the Milwaukee Brewers will catch a break when it comes to injuries.

Monday, however, was not that day.

Brewers Lose Another Outfielder, Place Blake Perkins On IL

Just a few hours after getting reliever Bryan Hudson back from the injured list following a two-week absence with an oblique strain, the Brewers placed outfielder Blake Perkins on the 10-day IL with a strained left calf.

With a bumper crop of young, talented outfield prospects as well as veteran left fielder Christian Yelich, Perkins, who signed as a free agent last November, wasn’t expected to be an everyday player for Milwaukee,

However, injuries to Garrett Mitchell and Yelich opened the door to Perkins’ regular playing time. He was slashing .257/.330/.363 with eight doubles, two triples, six home runs, and 34 RBIs to go along with 17 stolen bases and a .693 OPS in 90 games this season.

First baseman Tyler Black was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to replace Perkins on Milwaukee’s active roster.

With Perkins joining Yelich, Mitchell will likely see the majority of the action in the center with Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick covering the corners, leaving Jake Bauers, who has played primarily at first base in 2024 but has made seven starts in left and two more in the right this season, to fill the fourth outfielder role.

Black, meanwhile, gives the Brewers another left-handed bat. They’ll face almost exclusively right-handed starting pitchers as they head into a stretch.
