On Sunday night, the Miami Marlins revealed they are calling up infielder Connor Norby, per beat reporter Isaac Azout. Norby was acquired from the Baltimore Orioles at the trade deadline in exchange for starting pitcher Trevor Rogers. The Marlins also acquired outfielder Kyle Stowers in the trade for Rogers. Stowers made his major league debut in 2022 and has since been in and out of the majors. Stowers has already played in 16 games with the Marlins. In those games, he has had five hits and three walks.

Marlins Call Up Infielder Connor Norby
Connor Norby was drafted in 2021 by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round. He has spent the four past seasons in the minors, making his major league debut earlier this year before being sent back down. In 2023 while with Triple-A Norfolk, he slashed .290/.359/.483 with 40 doubles, 21 homers, and 10 steals. He finished tied for fourth in all the minors in both hits and doubles.
This season, the Orioles called him up after Jorge Mateo entered concussion protocol. However, he only lasted nine games in the majors, where he had a .188 average with two home runs. After he was sent back down, he began to rake in Norfolk. The righty slashed .297/.389/.519 with 16 homers and 21 doubles in 80 games. By the time he was traded, he was ranked as Baltimore’s No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline. In addition, Norby led Baltimore’s farm system in combined homers over the past two seasons.

So far in his time with the Marlins organization, he has been playing with the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Here he has slashed .263/.300/.368 and had 16 hits in 13 games. Norby is a young, powerful hitter who can be a cornerstone in the Marlins franchise. Hopefully, he can bring some offensive life back to Miami’s lineup.
