The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting a major boost with the return of their ace, Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Yamamoto was activated from the 60-day IL as a result of an arm injury. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers have designated pitcher Nick Ramirez for assignment. The 35-year-old was called up two days ago from Triple-A.

Dodgers Ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto Returns From IL
The Dodgers have lost many starting pitchers to the IL this season. This includes Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, Gavin Stone, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, Emmet Sheehan, and River Ryan. It’s the lengthiest list of starters to land on the IL for an organization in 2024. So, getting Yamamoto back with about three weeks left in the regular season and for October baseball is a blessing. Gonsolin is also progressing with his injury and started his first rehab assignment today. Yamamoto was placed on the IL on June 16th with a rotator cuff strain. This season, Yamamoto has sported a 6-2 record with a 2.92 ERA with a 1.068 WHIP across 14 starts for the Dodgers. Yamamoto signed with the Dodgers on December 27th, 2023, on a 12-year contract worth $325 million.
Hopefully, the Japanese superstar will give the Dodgers a greater shot at success in October for the postseason. Considering Yamamoto has been absent for a long time, he likely won’t pitch deep in this evening’s game against the Chicago Cubs. Still, fans are excited to have Yamamoto back in the starting rotation. In addition, he can use the remainder of the regular season to prepare for the postseason and perhaps help Los Angeles hold on for the NL West title. Besides, Yamamoto has returned at a critical time, and if he can remain healthy and continue to pick up where he left off, it will be smooth sailing for the Dodgers.
