His consistency has allowed manager John Schneider to play him more. Schneider has also been an important part of the Blue Jays lineup. Although his natural position is second base, he’s been playing in right field. We’ve also seen Schneider make some great catches in the outfield. Schneider has also made adjustments to his stance at the plate compared to last season. It will be interesting to see if Schneider’s numbers will be effective in August, as that’s when we saw his offensive decline last season. Schneider isn’t only impressive compared to his teammates but also his opponents. He has the third-highest OPS in the AL at .914 since making his MLB Debut on August 4th. Just like how he deserves to be in the lineup every day, he also deserves to be batting first. He’s improved from last season with a higher EV and barrel percentage. On a full-time basis, he’s a 3 + WAR player. In over 650 plate appearances, he has a 6 WAR, 29 home runs, 97 RBI, 52 doubles, and a .903 OPS. Great numbers for a rookie and a player playing in just his second season at the major league level.
While Schneider may be small in height, he plays big as a player for the Blue Jays. Schneider is the impact bat that the Blue Jays need. This type of player will continue to grow and excel as he learns. Schneider has also proven to be effective in the 9th inning of games. This season, in 12 at-bats, he has two home runs, four extra-base hits, six RBIs, a .500 batting average, and 1.767 OPS. Talk about clutch for the 25-year-old.
