It’s been an interesting season for utility player Cavan Biggio, who has jumped from team to team, but now he’s found a new home and is making his debut with the Atlanta Braves. Biggio has been on four different teams this season.

Biggio’s Whirlwind Season
On June 12th, Biggio was traded from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He only spent a short time with the Dodgers, following relatively unimpressive numbers across 30 games. He batted .192 with 10 RBI and three home runs in that span. Then, on August 5th, he was designated for assignment by the Dodgers and released on August 8th. Then, on August 23rd, Biggio was signed by the San Francisco Giants on a minor league contract. Through 12 games with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, he slashed .163/.413/.326 with two home runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases. He did not appear in a major league game for the Giants. Lastly, on September 7th, Biggio was traded to the Braves in exchange for cash considerations. He only played in one game for the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers before getting called up to the majors.

Today, Biggio makes his debut with the Braves following a merry-go-round adventure in the majors this season. Aside from his former home in Toronto, Biggio hasn’t been able to settle into a new team long enough to establish himself. Following his dismissal from the Blue Jays, Biggio hasn’t put up consistent offense this season, at least not sufficient to impress the teams he’s been on. Whether Biggio will be able to figure things out with the Braves remains to be seen.
When Biggio was initially called up from the Stripers, he told reporters, “I have always admired this organization.” Unfortunately, Biggio won’t be postseason-eligible since he signed with the Braves after the September 1st deadline. Hopefully, Biggio will showcase better numbers over the remaining stretch of the 2024 regular season. If Biggio can regain his form from 2019 and 2023 in particular, he could be utilized effectively on the Braves roster through his utility role.
