New York Knicks Sign Trey Burke

This comes weeks after backing out of a deal with Oklahoma City, coincidentally enough, the same day Anthony was traded. The New York Knicks sign Trey Burke

Trey Burke  Burke has joined, what has become a cluster of point guards, signing a contract with the New York Knicks. This comes just a couple weeks after backing out of a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, coincidentally enough, the same day Carmelo Anthony was traded. The New York Knicks sign Trey Burke who has potential to grow into not necessarily a starter but a key back-up potential.

New York Knicks Sign Trey Burke

The four-year veteran played his whole career with the Utah Jazz before signing with the Washington Wizards last year. This makes for an odd signing because the Knicks brought four point guards on their roster into the preseason.

Point Guard Situation for New York Knicks

What does this signing mean for the other players on the team? Jarrett Jack is signed on a non-guaranteed contract, which means the Knicks can drop him at any time. Jack hasn’t been outplaying anyone on the team so that is a possible route.

Rookie Frank Ntilikina has been missing time with a knee bruise but as a lottery selection, Ntillkina can be slowly worked back into the rotation. Burke, however, could be insurance in case Jack doesn’t work out and Ntilikina is still injured come opening night. Ramon Sessions looks to be the starter on opening night, with Ron Baker running the second unit.

Rebooting Trey Burke’s Career

Trey Burke, a former first-round draft pick with the Minnesota Timberwolves, has never lived up to his college hype. It is fair to say that after his first two years, Burke never got a real chance to be a productive starter. He averaged a modest 12.8 points in his first two years in the league, but Burke’s numbers dropped after that. Burke will be reunited with his former Michigan teammate, Tim Hardaway Jr., which could help create some interesting chemistry.

From a talent standpoint, this signing makes total sense for the Knicks. Burke is a player looking to recharge his career. The Knicks are looking to build a core of young dynamic player after the Carmelo Anthony era, Burke could be an intricate piece to the team’s success should he get his chance.
