Entering the 2024 NBA offseason, Golden State Warriors wing Klay Thompson will be an unrestricted free agent. And after 13 seasons on the roster, there is a serious chance the four-time champion has played his last game with the team.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Thompson “is open to all external options in free agency” this offseason and will test the free agent market.

During the 2023-24 season, Thompson had one of the worst seasons of his career. The 34-year-old averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Furthermore, he shot 43.2% from the field and 38.7% from beyond the arc. More notably, in what may be the last game of his Warriors career, Thompson recorded zero points while shooting 0-for-10 in the team’s Play-In loss to the Sacramento Kings.
Klay Thompson is expected to test the free agent market and seek offers elsewhere, per @ShamsCharania
“If he does leave the Warriors, that call with Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Steve Kerr—that’s going to be the most difficult call Klay Thompson made, possibly ever.”

Golden State Warriors Free Agent Makes Major Decision
Klay Thompson Unfollowed the Golden State Warriors on Social Media
Recently, reports indicated that Thompson unfollowed the team on social media and removed many posts related to the team. On a recent episode of his podcast, Draymond Green spoke about Thompson’s social media activity.
“I know all of you were probably looking forward to me talking about Klay unfollowing the Warriors, deleting some IG posts or something,” Green said. “I had no idea that happened. I think it’s f–king hilarious. Just so y’all know I laughed when [his producer Jackson’s] like, ‘What about Klay?’ and I’m like, ‘What happened?’ and he’s like, ‘He unfollowed the Warriors.’
“I think that’s comical. I know you all want somebody’s feelings to be hurt or something. It ain’t that, ain’t never going to be that. That’s hilarious.”
Although Green downplayed his teammate’s actions, former NBA veteran Chandler Parsons believes Thompson “is up to something.”
“I definitely think [Klay Thompson] is up to something… You don’t just unfollow the Warriors and follow [Paolo Banchero], the best player on the team…”
Mutual Interest Between Klay Thompson and the Orlando Magic
The team that has been the most heavily linked to Thompson is the Orlando Magic. After their impressive 47-35 regular season finish, the Magic entered the NBA Playoffs as the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference. Ultimately, the team lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round. Hoping to improve from their playoff appearance, the Magic will likely pursue Thompson this summer. And according to Charania, Thompson may have interest in joining the Magic.
“The Magic can open up an excess of sixty million dollars in cap space this off season…One name to keep an eye on, Klay Thompson, I’m told there is mutual interest between the Magic and Klay Thompson.”
Furthermore, teams to express interest in Thompson are the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers.
