When the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Bronny James, they made history. Everyone wanted to see how LeBron James and his son would compete against each other. Even on media day, the two joked about a play in which Bronny said his father was out of bounds. That being aside, we can already see the intensity between LeBron and Bronny going up.
Bronny and LeBron Heating Up Intensity in Practice
While Bronny didn’t have an encouraging preseason, he certainly works out in practice. We might hear a lot of stories about their practices as the season goes on, and the latest comes from Anthony Davis.
The All-Star forward talked to the media about a special segment:
“Bronny hit a three over him (LeBron) today, and everybody was talking smack, in Bronny’s favor. Then Bron came down and bullied somebody. Took it out on who, I forgot who it was, got a layup. Bronny came back down, hit another three, and Bron wanted the ball”.
Bronny and LeBron are no longer playing in their backyard. They are now part of a legit NBA team, and they are sharing the court. While many thought James was all smiles for playing with his son, the oldest player in the league clearly showed he has no mercy for him.
Bronny Preseason Stats
Bronny James was drafted No.55 overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. When he was drafted, many experts said the only reason was his father, and he had no place in the league. Through the first five preseason games, it seemed like that would be true. Bronny struggled mightily, scoring only eight points in total on 4-for-2o shooting and 0-for-7 from behind the arc, he also had five turnovers.
Yet, in the preseason finale, Bronny was different. The eldest son of Lebron James made his first shot less than a minute after tipoff. He also connected on a three, beating the shot clock with a jumper from the top of the arc. In the last game, he posted a line of 17 points on 7-for-17 shooting, four rebounds, three steals, and one block in 35 minutes of action. Nobody expects Bronny to average those numbers in his first season, but it shows his character and resilience in trying to battle adversity.
Will Bronny Play During His First Season?
The Lakers have plenty of guards and rookies on their roster this season. Their guard rotation starts with Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell, from there, it continues with Gabe Vincent and Max Christie. Considering that LeBron wants to play point guard a bit, it seems like Bronny will have a hard time cracking the rotation.
Then, we also have to talk about another guard the Lakers recently signed. Quincy Olivari’s story is an inspiring one. Going undrafted in the 2024 draft, he managed to earn a spot by playing extraordinarily in the preseason. The Lakers recently signed him to a two-way contract. All things considered, we can expect Bronny to spend a significant amount of time playing for the team’s G League affiliate. After all, he is a developmental player at this point.
