Knapp has burst onto the scene since two weeks ago at the WM Phoenix Open, dazzling fans with close shots at Hole 16 while showing off his long drive capabilities. Looking at Round 2 matchups, he has a clear advantage over Fox.
Knapp ranked second in the field yesterday in Strokes Gained: Ball Striking, putting up a wild total of +5.01 strokes gained in that category, compared to Fox, who lost 0.81 strokes there. He also way outranked him in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and Tee to Green, arguably the two most important strokes gained categories this week.
Fox losing 1.35 strokes on approach is pretty worrisome, as that can carry over to the next round if you’re relying too much on your putting, which he might be. Vidanta is a bombers paradise, and Knapp fits the bill.
