It’s finally time for the best month of the golf season: the Florida Swing! After everyone spent the first couple months on the West Coast, playing all of those California tournaments with the Poa greens and all the elevation, now we go to water-heavy, Bermuda-greened courses, starting with PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.
PGA National, which is only 20 minutes from my house (and where I plan to spend at least 15 hours this weekend), is one of the harder courses on tour, despite the relative shortness of the track. Water danger looms on 15/18 holes, positional accuracy is a must, and getting up and down from the rough is a test at best, struggle at worst.
The Cognizant Classic, which used to be known as the Honda Classic, also features a much stronger field this season for the first time in several years, as a schedule change has benefitted it. Players like Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Young headline this field, and they’ll inevitable be the talk of the course.
