Tennessee Vols Add Ramel Keyton

The Early Signing Period got a little bit better for Jeremy Pruitt as the Tennessee Vols add Ramel Keyton from Marietta, Georiga.

Tennessee landed four-star receiver Ramel Keyton during the early singing period on Wednesday morning. Keyton is a 6’3″, 185 pound receiver that will join an athletic Vols receiving corps. He is ranked as the 107th best prospect in the nation by the 247Sports.com industry composite ranking. Keyton is the first player to sign his letter of intent for the 2019 recruiting class.

Tennessee Vols Add Ramel Keyton

Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt is wrapping up his first full recruiting class. Pruitt had to cobble together the 2018 class, assuming his duties only three weeks before the early signing period. He continued as defensive coordinator at Alabama during this period as well. Tennessee is expected to have fruitful Wednesday, with Keyton joining Wanya Morris, Jaylen McCollough, and Jackson Lowe as top-ranked early signees.

Complementing an Already Established Receiver Corps

The receiving corps is the position group in the best shape for the Vols. Pending an early departure, Tennessee will return six receivers who made contributions in 2018. Keyton, with his build, fits in nicely with that group. Four of those six are 6’2″ or taller. Pruitt needs both talent and depth during the recruiting cycle and Keyton fills both of those requirements.

Pruitt will have to decide whether to get Keyton into the Vols scheme or whether to consider a redshirt path with the talented wide receiver. With the Vols depth at receiver, both paths are an option.

Keyton expects to be an early enrollee in January, and the extra time in the program could give the young receiver a head start to getting on the field on a regular basis next season.

Coming From a Powerhouse Program

Keyton is coming from Marietta High School in Marietta, Georgia, just north of Atlanta. The Blue Devils have a ridiculously good bevy of 2020 talent with six players currently ranked in the top 311 nationally. That includes five-star athlete Arik Gilbert (8th nationally), four-star quarterback Harrison Bailey (62nd nationally), four-star defensive lineman BJ Ojulari (84th nationally) and four-star offensive lineman Jake Wray (123rd nationally).

Bailey is a Tennessee commit, while the others are Georgia, Georgia, and Ohio State commits respectively. But with Keyton in Knoxville and Bailey likely to join him, Vols fans hope the duo can persuade one of their many talented teammates to change their minds over the next twelve months.

And with Tennessee coming off of another disappointing season, the Vols can use all the help they can get.
