Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators coaching staff have signed one of their top defensive commits in their class. Four-star defensive tackle and Florida commit Desmond Watson has signed his NLI to the University of Florida.
This is a good signing for Florida. Watson is one of the biggest and quickest defensive tackles in the country. In addition, he is one of two defensive tackles that are expected to sign with the Florida Gators on Wednesday. Defensive tackle Christopher Thomas is also expected to sign with the Gators on Early Signing Day.
Who is Desmond Watson and What Does He Bring to Florida?
Watson is a four-star defensive tackle out of Armwood High School in Seffner, Florida. The Florida commit is one of the top-ranked defensive tackles in the country. Watson was a tough get for the Gators. He had offers from some of the top football programs in the country.
During his recruitment, Watson received 21 offers from some of the top college football programs. Watson had offers from schools like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Tennessee.
On Rivals, Watson is the 17th ranked defensive tackle in the country. Further, he is the 54th ranked recruit in Florida according to Rivals. On ESPN, Watson is the 26th ranked defensive tackle in the country. He is also the 63rd ranked recruit in Florida according to ESPN.
The Gators have added one of the top defensive tackles in the country. Florida has also risen in the recruiting rankings since Watson’s commitment. At six-foot-five and 360 pounds, Watson has a ton of size but will likely shed some weight and play nose tackle at Florida. Watson will also be enrolling at Florida early in January so he will be able to practice with the team in spring camp.
