Wyatt Milum Makes It Official
In-state star Wyatt Milum signed and delivered his letter of intent to West Virginia today. Like that, Milum makes it official: Head Coach Neal Brown adds the highest-ranked in-state recruit for the second straight year.
Impressively, Milum committed to West Virginia in March. Despite scholarship offers and recruiting efforts by schools like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Notre Dame, Milum stuck to his pledge. Indeed, the greatest threat to Milum’s commitment seemed to be his baseball prowess (Milum is a solid pitching prospect, too).
Milum hails from Spring Valley in Huntington. Based on the 247Sports composite score (0.9510), Milum represents the sixth-best prep recruit in program history. Milum also adds much-needed depth of talent to the Mountaineers’ offensive line. He brings plenty of size and skill for offensive-line coach Matt Moore to utilize. Milum stands at 6’6 and weighs 273 (with room to bulk up).
Milum offers great length for the position. He uses highly active footwork to get leverage at the point of contact. He has A-level reaction time, and shows strength and balance at a high enough level to compete for very early playing time. Most consider his ceiling an early-round draft pick. Should his talents translate (and there is no reason to think they will not), Milum grades out as a future All-Conference player. And with the addition of Chris Mayo to last year’s class, he represents the second four-star lineman in as many years for Coach Brown.
His overall ranking (108th in the 2021 class) fell a bit through the year, but it is likely this reflects the only question about his play: does his skill appear inflated based on the level of competition? Though we seriously doubt that, we will find out soon enough. In the meantime, we welcome Milum to Morgantown and will watch his development as a Mountaineer closely.
