Bo Nix Enters Transfer Portal

The Bo Nix era at Auburn has come to a close. On Sunday night Bo Nix announced he was going to enter the transfer portal and continue his career elsewhere. Other than the final two games of this season, Nix had started each game of his three seasons on the plains. This move will bring about plenty of questions and leave fans wondering what is next for Auburn at quarterback.

Bo Nix Enters Transfer Portal

Too Much Hype?

When Nix arrived at Auburn in 2019, expectations were perhaps too high. He was a coveted five-star recruit that led Pinson Valley to two 6A Alabama state championships in 2017 and 2018. He broke several state records at Pinson Valley and was named Mr. Football in 2018. Another element that added to the hype was that he is the son of former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix. His dad was a solid quarterback in the mid-90s, but much was expected from his son.

Throughout his time at Auburn, Nix showed flashes of greatness. He also left fans shaking their heads in disappointment at times as well. That started with the miracle finish to the season opener of the 2019 season against Oregon. He played poorly most of the game but made some great throws toward the end to pull off an upset. The roller coaster-style plays really hampered him his first two seasons. This season under new head coach Bryan Harsin, improvement was shown. The best performances came in his lone season under Harsin. In the final game of his career against Mississippi State, he passed for 377 and two touchdowns. He broke his ankle in the game but played on the bad leg for a few positions before not being able to go any longer.

Not meeting expectations will be what is remembered by many about Nix with his time at Auburn. Nix should be remembered for his toughness. Nix never quit on his team or university. He gave everything he had for Auburn, and the fans should remember that about Bo.

Who Plays Quarterback in 2022?

The only quarterback remaining on the roster with any SEC playing experience is T.J. Finley. The LSU transfer started the last two games against South Carolina and Alabama, and the offense struggled in both games. The offense became more limited with Finley at quarterback, and he would not seem to be the long-term solution at the position. Next up is freshman Dematrius Davis who saw no time this season for Auburn. He has plenty of physical talent and has fans hopeful for his future. The third option would be for Auburn to dip into the portal for someone. Whoever is the 2022 Auburn quarterback, they have some shoes to fill.
