USF Wide Receivers Preview

USF Wide Receivers Preview

With Spring practice in full effect, USF looks to their wide receivers for a lot of offensive production this upcoming season. Considering there are a couple of new faces and some returning guys the bulls are hoping that come September 3rd the receivers are ready to go against a tough opponent in BYU.

Returning Favorites

A returner from last year who is poised to have another great season is Xavier Weaver. Weaver totaled 715 receiving yards off 41 receptions in only 10 games played, averaging about 17.4 yards a catch. Despite only having 41 receptions last year look for Xavier to have maybe even twice that if he stays healthy.

Following Weaver, another big returning wideout is Jimmy horn Jr. who is only a sophomore. In his freshman campaign, Horn tallied 408 reception yards off 30 receptions in 12 games played.  Horn averaged about 13.6 yards per catch just under Xavier Weaver. Considering he was a freshman putting up these numbers is a good sign for the Bulls. Just like Weaver, he will be expected to carry a big load on his back this coming season.

Lastly, we have Omarion Dollison who is coming back for his sophomore season exactly like Jimmy Horn Jr. Dollison had an alright freshman season putting up 218 receiving yards off 27 receptions in 12 games played, averaging about 8.1 yards a catch. Regardless of Dollison’s freshman numbers, be ready for him to have a breakout year as USF is shaping to throw the ball much more this upcoming season.

Some Unfamiliar Faces

A big addition to the lineup via the transfer portal is Ajou Ajou. Ajou transferring from Clemson will make for a big change to the passing game considering how big and strong he is. Ajou weighs in at 220 and stands at 6’3 which is favorable for his position. Even though Travis Trickett wants to let his best players play in space don’t be surprised if Ajou gets the ball over the top.

Another big add-on via the transfer portal is Khafre Brown who is shaping to have a big season considering how fast he is. Brown stands at 6’0 and weighs in at 190lbs. He will be a hard one to stop for defenses. If Brown gets put out in space with room to run, he might not be stopped. With him competing at the University of North Carolina before this, he’s not shy to some pretty good defenses.

Freshman Underdogs

An incoming freshman looking to get some time and hopefully make an impact will be Cade Roberts. Roberts coming from South Walton high school should be fun to watch considering he’s an excellent route runner. Despite only being a 3 star and having some decent offers Roberts hopes he can prove some people wrong.

Redshirt Freshman Sincere Brown who’s been with the team a little bit now, but never really played will also look to make a name for himself. Brown is a big receiver in high school has a lot of potential. Even though he hasn’t seen the field much, he could be one to watch if he gets an opportunity. With Sincere standing at 6’5, it’ll be hard to not throw the ball up to him in one-on-one coverage.

The Road to Come

Considering USF is deep at wide receiver be ready for more guys to emerge as potentials to make an impact. Despite some of the receivers being either redshirt freshman or sophomores, the Bulls hope their young core can push them far in the AAC this upcoming year. The weapons that the bulls have to utilize could be pretty scary.

USF Wide Receiver Preview Takeaways

Regardless of all the talent, USF needs at least one of these guys to have a breakout year. Weaver will look to lead the team in receiving yards yet again, in hopes of bringing USF back to being a true competitor. However, even though Weaver looks to be the number one wideout, there’s always room for more guys to step up.

Come Spring game time, Jeff Scott is hoping his receivers can show what they are made of. Look for the receivers to make some big plays against their teammates in a fun scrimmage-like game. Regardless, with all of the talent on this team, the bulls could make a splash this year.
