What is the biggest game of Week 13? Unfortunately, to find the correct answer, we must look outside the SEC and go north to Columbus. We will let our Big Ten and Ohio State writer cover that one instead. The Week 13 SEC slate is a bit light and lacks the punch we have all grown accustomed to over the last few months. Of course, that is probably a jinx, and we will likely see an upset or two this week (think Vandy over Alabama a little over a month ago). Before we get to the Week 13 SEC betting lines, let’s take a closer look at what to expect this week in the SEC.
Week 13 Could Have Been…
It’s amazing. Ole Miss traveling to The Swamp, the Tide rolling into Norman, and Texas A&M heading to Jordan Hare at night. These three games could have been appointment television if both teams were competitive and held up their end of the bargain. That doesn’t mean these games are dangerous. Let’s take a closer look.
Florida is stuck, err, and decided to keep Billy Napier around. Two weeks ago in Austin, that looked like a bad idea. Last week’s win over LSU gave some hope and vindication that Napier is going the right way. Ole Miss has their eyes set on a College Football Playoff spot; they will need to keep their focus to avoid the trap the Gators set last week for the Tigers.
Speaking of Tigers, Jordan Hare is supposedly one of the most difficult places to play in the SEC. The fans are passionate, show up, and swag surf with the best of them. The problem is their team has failed to show up consistently. Texas A&M heads to The Plains, also needing a win to keep their hopes up for a CFB Playoff spot.
Alabama traveling to play in Norman should be a 7:30 pm primetime game. The only problem is that the Sooner are not a prime-time team in their first year in the SEC. The team is reeling and has had difficulty putting together some semblance of an offense and scoring points against SEC competition. Meanwhile, the Tide are rounding into full gear with their sights set on returning to Atlanta and the playoff.
There is dark magic at Jordan-Hare, telling us the Aggies should beware. The fans are loud and proud and can swag surf with the best of them. Too often, Auburn has failed to respond in kind. The Aggies are in prime position to seize a spot in Atlanta and the playoff, but the loss two weeks ago at night in Columbia is also fresh and could be repeated.
Finally, let’s watch the Baton Rouge hot seat. LSU is struggling and appears broken. A loss to Diego Pavia and Vanderbilt could see LSU looking to pass the hat to help Brian Kelly find a new family.
Week 13 SEC Betting Lines
Too many cupcakes. This is the kind of week where you wish the SEC were playing a meaningful ninth conference game rather than facing an FCS or Group of Five teams. The league desperately needs data points and marquee wins to differentiate itself from the Big Ten. UMass, UTEP, Wofford, and Louisiana Tech just aren’t going to cut it.
