As expected, UCLA got the official signature on the national letter of intent from wide receiver Charles Njoku of Wayne Hills, New Jersey Wednesday.
Njoku had been committed to Missouri until mid-November. Then opened it up and over the early Winter period and narrowed it down to Nebraska and UCLA by mid-January. He verbally committed to UCLA on January 25th. It is no coincidence that Bruins head coach Chip Kelly had made the cross-country trip to New Jersey for some face-to-face time with Njoku, as he was getting ready to make his announcement.
The 6-5, 200-pound receiver is a three-star recruit according to the 247Sports composite. He is the younger brother of Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku (University of Miami). Charles is a higher rated recruit than David was going into college. The younger Njoku also jumped up the rankings at the end of his senior season of high school football. He started November ranked as the #75 receiver in the country and is now #51. He finished his senior season with 52 catches for just over 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Aside from his obvious size advantage that he brings to the position, he also runs a certified 4.55 40-yard dash. He joins a deep list of UCLA receivers on the 2019 roster but only Michael Ezeike compares in terms of size.
Njoku had an offer from Boston College as well the ones from Nebraska, Missouri, and UCLA.
