The Remaining Targets for Nebraska On The Recruiting Trail

It’s no secret that Nebraska has excelled on the recruiting trail under Matt Rhule and his staff.  In June alone, the Cornhuskers secured 15 commitments as well as a pledge from tight end Carter Nelson. But who would be committing in July? We break down the top remaining targets for the program to add to their recruiting class.

A True Tackle That Nebraska Can Develop

Under the direction of Donovan Raiola, the Huskers’ offensive line had major problems in 2022. The good news is that the Huskers have addressed the glaring need for bigger linemen with four commits this cycle by landing  Ashton Murphy, Jake Peters, and Gibson Pyle. But if the program wants to be truly elite up front, they will have to win the services of Iowa native and Nebraska target Grant Brix. As the number one player in the state of Iowa, the 4-star prospect holds offers from programs such as Alabama, Oklahoma, Kansas State, and Auburn. But it looks as though Nebraska is in good shape for this battle.

According to an interview with HuskerOnline, he called his recent visit a nine because he got to interact with, “All of the committed or not committed recruits.” Another highlight? He got to meet one-on-one with coach Corey Campbell as well as the rest of the strength staff. Notice how he forgot to mention Raiola’s name. Is that a good sign that the program will woo him away, or is he still looking at Kansas State?

Can The Huskers Get Another Wide Reciever?

It is very clear that wide receivers coach Garrett McGuire has had a busy month with adding wide receivers to Nebraska’s recruiting class. Not only did he land two in-state prospects in  Dae’Vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris, but he also gained a pledge from Quinn Clark.  But does NU have room for one more? If so, a great option for the team would be Idaho’s Gatlin Blair.  He is ranked as the number one wideout prospect in Idaho and has received big offers from schools like  Michigan, Oregon, and TCU. He also had a great junior season as he caught 73 passes for 1,073 yards and 18 touchdowns. But it is understandable if he takes his talents elsewhere.

The Huskers can only fill so many spots with their scholarships, and they have plenty of weapons already. But stranger things have happened in this class already.  A good example of this is Jacory Barney Jr’s surprise decision to pick Nebraska over Miami on July 1.

Locking Down Defensive Talent From The Sunshine State

With commits like Willis McGahee IV and Jacory Barney Jr, the Huskers have made significant inroads in landing recruits from Florida.  While it is nowhere near  Scott Frost levels,  But don’t think that they are done just yet.  In fact, defensive backs coach Evan Cooper is working on securing a pledge from Nebraska target and three-star cornerback Amare Sanders. This should be an easy prospect to nab because of the relationship he has with Cooper. Another big benefit is that he likes the environment of accountability that Nebraska holds itself to under Rhule. On a more personal note, he has good relationships with current commits like Mario Buford and Jacory Barney Jr. Because of these factors, don’t be surprised if he ends up committing to the class soon.

A Raiola Backup Plan From Hawaii

If Grant Brix doesn’t end up in NU’s recruiting class, another Nebraska target at the offensive line position would be Preston Taumua. Not only is he a high four-star recruit, but he is also the number one offensive lineman in the state of Hawaii. Because of this attention, he has offers from schools like Alabama, Auburn, and Ohio State. As far as one day ago, he looked like a complete lean to Oregon, but several predictions have him landing in the Cornhuskers camp. If these come true on July 16, Raiola will have gained an aggressive player that would fit well alongside current commit Landen Davidson. And it would also give him more credibility with Polynesian recruits on the offensive line in future classes.
