LSU added yet another impressive player to its 2025 recruiting class with Calvary Baptist’s Devin Harper’s commitment to the Tigers. The Shreveport native is a 6-5, 300-pound four-star prospect as an interior offensive lineman. The 247Sports composite ranks him as the third-best player overall in Louisiana’s ’25 class and the fifth-best interior offensive lineman in the country.
Harper’s Recruitment
Offensive Line coach Brad Davis has molded the LSU offensive line into one of the most talented position groups on the team. Davis’ straightforward nature was key in locking down the best offensive lineman in the state for the third consecutive year. Harper spoke on the impression Davis made on his mother.
“It was the first time my mother went with me to an LSU visit, and they impressed her. She loves Coach Brad Davis and Coach Brian Kelly,” said Harper. He continued, “Coach Brad Davis, first of all, is the best coach I’ve ever met. So he played a huge part. The culture of LSU is second to none. I felt comfortable with the plan to develop me and have full confidence in the university.”
Harper plays left tackle for Calvary despite his projected future on the interior. His tape shows a player quick off the ball and plays through the whistle. He effortlessly seals and drives defenders in the direction he wants them to go with the physical traits of a natural road grader. Harper is quick and aggressive, but like most high school prospects he’ll need to improve in pass protection. The most impressive part of his game is his ability to quickly chip and get to the second level of the defense at his size.
Impressive Start for 2025
The Tigers now have 10 commitments for the class of 2025. Harper’s commitment gave LSU its second offensive lineman, joining offensive tackle commitment Bret Bordelon. The Tigers now have seven commitments from Louisiana, all of whom are ranked in the top ten prospects in the state. He chose LSU over Georgia and Tennessee.
Harper’s commitment came on the heels of a visit to LSU for its Cajun Bash Junior Day recruiting event. The event proved fruitful, as Harper committed just three days after LSU received the commitment of 2025 cornerback Jaboree Antoine. Antoine is the second-ranked player in the state.
LSU has the top-ranked class for the class of ’25. The Tigers have multiple commitments from players ranked as the best players at their positions, including the top overall player in quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Who’s Next on the Recruiting Trail?
All indications point to the LSU staff having more success at Calvary Baptist for the 2025 class. The Tigers are frontrunners for running back James Simon who has over 20 scholarship offers from a who’s who of college programs. The four-star prospect has not set a commitment date but would like to commit before his senior season.
The Tigers are unrelenting in their pursuit of a potentially historic ’25 class, having hosted Florida native DJ Pickett on Wednesday. Pickett is ranked as a safety on some services, but LSU is recruiting him as a cornerback. He’s a 6’3”, 170-pound rangy athlete who is also considering Florida and Michigan among others. Cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond is emphasizing going after elite prospects in his return to LSU.
LSU could also still add to its 2024 class. Terry Bussey of Timpson, TX also visited Baton Rouge on Wednesday. Bussey is the top-rated athlete in the country, and LSU is recruiting him as a defensive back. The five-star athlete is a long-time Texas A&M commitment but decided to visit other schools after a coaching change for the Aggies. Bussey will make his final decision on National Signing Day, February 7.
