Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight has flipped his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn, he announced on Wednesday. The move comes after weeks of speculation that he was intending to flip on his original pledge from September of 2023. Knight, who hails from Mississippi, was a key part of Notre Dame’s 2025 class. He is ranked as a Top 50 player by Rivals, On3, and 247 Sports.
“He is the most polarizing prospect in the class,” wrote Cooper Petagna, the 247Sports national recruiting analyst, of Knight. “It’s not just because he’s a quarterback. You talk about his physical potential—it’s unlimited. When you look at this kid and what he can be, we’re talking about a guy with a 42-inch vertical jump, a state champion with a very strong track and field resume in terms of genetics with his brother playing at Indiana. He’s got it all. He checks every box.”
A 6’-4″, Deuce Knight is considered one of the more athletic quarterback talents in the 2025 class.
“If you were to drop in the NFL scouting combine, he’d be in the top one percent, especially of that quarterback room,” Petagna noted. “The biggest thing with Knight is can he develop as a passer? With what we’ve seen this offseason, the answer is more than likely yes. He had a really strong three days at the Elite 11 finals. Every time I have seen him, he has gotten better and better.”
CJ Carr Waiting in the Wings
With this year’s Notre Dame’s offense in the capable hands (and feet) of dual-threat quarterback Riley Leonard, the future of the position for the Irish still looks bright despite losing Knight to Auburn. Consensus four-star quarterback CJ Carr, a cornerstone of the Irish’s 2024 recruiting class, is likely a future Notre Dame star. Playing behind Leonard and Steve Angeli this year, Carr will be competing for the QB1 spot next season.
Carr, who stands 6’3”, 210 pounds, is from Saline, Michigan. He is the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. The Saline High School standout selected Notre Dame over Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Michigan. In high school last year, Carr had 199 completions from 292 attempts (68.2 percent). He threw for 2,754 passing yards, including 24 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He also rushed for 91 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. In his high school career, Carr completed 577 of 861 passing attempts for 8,135 yards. He had 78 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Carr made his Irish debut with a brief appearance in Notre Dame’s runaway 66-7 win over Purdue in Week 3.
